Mom and Dad’s 75th Wedding Anniversary
The suggested topic for day 16 of the Ultimate Blog Challenge is to write about the last concert, play or movie that you saw and can you relate it to your business. While this isn’t the last concert I saw and it didn’t relate to my business, it was a very special concert and related to my family. Today would have been my mom and dad’s 75th wedding anniversary and when I read the suggested topic, it brought back wonderful memories.
Back in 1995 we took my mom and dad to a concert at the Alabama Theater in Myrtle Beach SC to see the Gatlin Brothers perform. They were so excited when we went to our front row center seats, right in front of where Larry Gatlin did most of the singing. Mom was in the middle stages of Alzheimer’s but when the band played and the Gatlin Brothers sang, my mom would perk up and start signing along with them!
The most exciting part was when Larry jumped off the stage, came over to my mom and gave her a big hug! I think mom thought she was in heaven! While he was with her I mentioned I’d love one of their guitar picks, not knowing if he heard me over my mom’s excitement. Larry went back on stage and continued the concert but I was having as much fun watching how excited my mom and dad were as I was listening to the band.
As the concert was winding down it happened, Larry threw me a guitar pick from their Adios Tour of 1992! Now it was my turn to get excited over a guitar pick! We all had a wonderful evening at the Gatlin Brothers concert but the best part for my hubby and me was to see how happy my mom and dad were.
My mom and dad were so in love from the moment they met back in October 1943. They met while my dad was home on leave from the Army and married before he went back to fight in the war. This is a blog I wrote two years ago about their short courtship but their long, loving life together.

I know they are both celebrating 75 wonderful years together with the heavenly choir of Angels. I love and miss them both so much but enjoy all the signs that they send down from heaven. Happy Anniversary mom and dad, your memories and love lives on in my heart forever.
