Met With The Surgeon
Met With The Surgeon
This is the third chapter about my granddaughter’s lung tumor. If you missed the others, you can read them here:
We met with the surgeon on Monday, July 11 after a few changes in appointments. It was originally scheduled for Monday but the office called last Thursday and due to a conflict with the surgeon, they changed it to July 22 and when I heard that date, I knew it wouldn’t work. Alexandra has been going through tests and scans since May 12 and we needed answers. I called the office to let them know we had already made hotel reservations for the 11th and asked if there was anything sooner than the 22nd. She had one for the 12th at 4:00 PM, so that worked. We arrived early Sunday and spent the day with Alexandra and had dinner at TGI Fridays. Of course I had a coupon!
Monday was just a day to chill so we all hung out at the hotel while Alex was catching Pokemon’s, snap chatting photos and editing them and just having a relaxing day together. About 1:00 PM hubby asked if we wanted to go to McDonald’s and as we’re sitting there eating, the phone rang. It was the hospital asking if we could come change the appointment to 3:00 PM on this day. So we had an hour and a half to get to the hospital which was only about 15 miles away. We finished lunch and took off. Once we got close to Akron General Medical Center I was amazed at how large it was! It was like a city of hospitals! We found the right one and went in to met with the surgeon. He was very pleasant to talk with and seemed super caring.
He went over all her previous scans and then told us since the tumor in her lung is so large and affecting the nerves in her lungs and heart, the surgeon ordered an MRI of the spinal column before surgery to see if it is entrapped by any other nerves. This will help determine how the surgery will be preformed. It will be a very delicate and major surgery since it includes the lung, heart and entrapped nerves. Her surgeon was so thorough describing how and what will be done and will have a neuro surgeon on stand by. When the surgeon told Alex she will be in hospital about a week and 2 week recovery that did not make her very happy as she thought it would be out-patient. He went on to tell her it’s very serious, delicate and major. She reluctantly accepted that and of course hubby and I will be with her the entire time. The MRI is set up for July 22nd and as soon as the results are in, surgery will be scheduled for the beginning of August.
Alex and I each have half of BEST FRIENDS penguin necklaces since she loves penguins. I told her I’m going to find a penguin sticker to stick on her leg during surgery since she can’t wear her necklace.
So many of my Facebook “family” have been sending prayers and well wishes and I plan to make a book out of them all to take to Alex when we go up for her surgery. This is one prayer that my friend Shelley sent and will be perfect for the cover. I’m looking forward to having this nightmare over and for Alex will heal well and all this will be behind us.
Best thoughts for the continuing and upcoming journey.
Thank you Savvy Age. We are taking this one day at a time and will be going back up for the surgery in August. Alexandra is our world.
Add my prayers to the rest! I wish her a safe and successful surgery, with a speedy recovery!!
Thank you Cindy! With all the prayers, Alex is in great hands!
sending lots of thoughts, prayers and love her way
Thanks Cheryl! Alex has so many prayers going her way, I know God is with her.
