Merry Christmas and Happy Anniversary

Today is Day 25 of the Cornerstone Content Blog Challenge and the topic is content that is evergreen. No I’m not talking about the evergreen Christmas tree I’m talking about content that doesn’t go out of date or never disappears. Today I’m writing about Merry Christmas and Happy Anniversary!

Christmas will never disappear and neither will my hubby’s and my anniversary of the day we met. 55 years ago Christmas day, Rich and I met on a blind date. We went to the movies and saw “That Darn Cat” and I still have the program from it. This is my true love story. http://themarthareview.com/true-love-is-forever-strong/

Yesterday was Christmas Eve and Rich and I along with Alexandra and Lia went to the Christmas Eve Carol Service at Our Lady of the Star Catholic Church. Lia fell asleep on the way to the church and didn’t even wake up when mommy carried in. Her nap ended about half way through the service and she loved see the Christmas lights on the alter and stained glass windows after she woke up.

The service was beautiful but I can never get through ‘O Holy Night’ with dry eyes. I sang that with my mom on the Christmas Eve service when I was about 10 years old. Every time I hear the song I have visions of my mom and me standing in the choir section singing this song together. I miss my mom, especially on holidays but I know she is watching over and guiding our family.

Now that the hustle and bustle has wound down, let’s take a few minutes and remember the true meaning of Christmas. Christmas is very special to me for many reasons, first we celebrate the birth of our Lord and 55 years ago on Christmas day Rich and I met. Another very special reason is that our first child, Christine Marie was born on Christmas morning 1968. This has been a year of ups and downs, uncertainty with COVID and many loved ones lost. Praying for all those who lost loved ones or who are still fighting COVID. Merry Christmas to all and prayers to those watching us from above.

  1. Martha, I love that you and the family went to church last night! Our church, Saint Barnabas on the Desert Episcopal Church, had services, but they were outside, socially distanced. And it was about 55 degrees at the time of our favorite service, the 5 pm Christmas Eve. So we went to a favorite place for a quick dinner and then relaxed at home, with classical Christmas music. Our PBS TV station is playing all sacred music right now, with gorgeous Arizona photography displayed behind the music. I went outside early, when no one was stirring, and had a grateful chat with God about the Reason for the Season. I am so grateful for everything! Now, it is totally awesome that you and Rich had your first date on Christmas Day! God had and has plans for you.

Sounds like you had a wonderful evening Kebba. Every other pew was roped off and everyone wore masks without complaints. Of course it was hard for some to keep their distance from Lia but they blew her kisses and sent her virtual hugs. I love going to mom’s garden late in the evening and have a chat with God. I know he listens!

Happy Holidays and Happy Anniversary to you! Christmas must indeed be a special day for you and l hope it continues to be a special day. This year has definitely being a weird one. Hoping for the best in the next one. That tree up top looks awesome!

  4. Lovely Christmas memories. If you are ever in the Rio Grande Valley (TX) in December, the mariachi mass at the National Shrine of Our Lady of San Juan is a memorable one and the poinsettias are beautiful. We used to go to the combined Spanish/English service for the full flavor and we aren’t even religious.
