Mama’s Minkys was Inspired by Lia
Today is December 1st and the beginning of the 2nd Cornerstone Content Blog Challenge hosted by Jeanine Byers and myself. The topic for today is to write about content that inspires. How can an infant inspire someone to start a business? I made a Minky blanket for my great granddaughter’s baby shower July 2018 a month before she was born. That’s how Mama’s Minkys was Inspired by Lia shortly after she was born in August 2018.
Minky fabric is super soft and fluffy and the first Minky blanket I made was a soft pink with pink glittery butterflies on the front. Who would have known that Lia would end up loving butterflies!
After Lia was born her mommy (my granddaughter Alexandra) mentioned we should start making Minky blankets. So we started a Facebook page and that was the beginning of Mama’s Minkys. We ordered a variety of Minky colors and adorable fabrics for the front of the blankets. We also do a search if someone is looking for a special theme or color.
We enjoy receiving pictures of our Minky babies wrapped in their Minky blankets. Alexandra even added an album on our website for our Happy Minky Babies. But don’t let babies fool you, some of our babies are teenagers or even adults showing off their Minkys!
Lia became our Quality Control Inspector when she was just a few months old. She loves the softness of the Minky fur and a few times while she was inspecting them, she would fall asleep! Now at 2 years old she likes to help me sew them also.
Within a few months we added Minky heart shaped rugs that could be used as a throw rug or a playmat for baby.
I came up with an idea to make some butterflies from Minky scraps. When I gave them to Lia she was so excited and hugged them saying, “My fyy-fyy!” Lia would call them “fyy-fyys” when she was just starting to talk, too cute. After seeing how excited she was, we added this to our line and call them Minky Cuddlers.
We also design matching pillows and some even have a monogrammed heart on them. Of course Lia has to inspect them before going to it’s new home.
As with our 53 year old interior decorating business that my hubby and I owned and operated until we “retired” in October 2018, Mama’s Minkys is run the same way. Other than having our Facebook page we don’t advertise except word of mouth and referrals and we add a card in each Minky blanket going to a new home. We gift many of them because we love making others smile.
The definition of INSPIRE is to fill someone with the urge or ability to do or feel something, especially to do something creative. So what’s a better blog topic to write about for the daily prompt than Mama’s Minkys was Inspired by Lia.
Jeanine and I started this Cornerstone Content Blog Challenge in September and this is the first blog I wrote back then! http://themarthareview.com/being-inspired-by-my-grandmother/
I’m excited to be in the Cornerstone Content Blog Challenge once again and looking forward to reading the others blogs on content that inspires!
I love that Lia inspired you to start Mama’s Minkys! They look super soft and cuddly and cozy. I can see why other moms would want to snap them up.
Inspiration comes in many ways Jeanine. We probably would have never even given Minkys a thought if it wasn’t for Lia. They are so soft!
Lovely pics and Lia as well as you look so beautiful..
Of course I knew the story of Mamas Minkys.. but it is still wonderful to read and see this post
Thanks Vidya! Lia inspires so many people in so many ways.
This is pure delight. What wonderful colors! And soft material! It doesn’t get any better than that!
There is a great color selection and I love how Lia inspects them all Alice.
Babies and new life = phenomenal inspiration. The blankets are darling. PS some old ladies like me also really love soft things. 🙂 Great post!
LOL yes many “old” ladies get wrapped up in them Julie. Thanks for visiting.
I can’t believe that you have a business with just a Facebook page. Its amazing
When we started our interior decorating business back in 1967 there was no Facebook Amrita. We made it all by word of mouth, the best advertising around.
[…] may I add a really cute little girl kept me motivated and happy as I kept up with their stories at the Martha Review. They kept my interest as Lia and Rusty became the best of friends (Rusty being their new pup, also […]
Awww I’m so glad Lia kept you motivated with her stories. She is always happy and ready to share her love and smiles with you and your dog pack Pamela! 🥰
How terrific that one little project turned into something bigger for you. I love hearing about your activities with Lia.
I never thought one little blanket would turn into a business with the help of Lia’s inspiration Virginia.
LIA is my inspiration in 2020! I thought she was granddaughter oops it’s great-granddaughter?!?!? WOW….Tell Alexandra she is an inspiration too. The of you INSPIRE through your blog posts- now to get over to YouTube live, do a podcast TOGETHER….have you seen me write TOGETHER in all caps often although usually meaning me and my dogs, LOL! I do love my family, we are just small in number- the rest of my family has the big hearts and compassion I am lacking thereof! thank you for inspiring me LIA, Rusty, Martha and Alexandra! Did you think I’d leave Rusty out? LOL!
First of all YOU are not lacking in a big heart and compassion Pamela. I love reading your stories about your dog pack and wonder if Rusty will ever be half as good as you and them together. Great idea to do a podcast but I’m terrible at speaking LOL Sure does sound good though, maybe I’ll challenge myself to to it with Lia and the fam! Lia can be my inspiration in that! Hugs to you from all of us! 🤗🥰
Minkys! They look like they are silky and soft, but maybe washable? And so many uses. So, love inspired your creation and your business. How fantastic. Thank you for sharing your story!
Thank you Kebba, yes they are washable too! One of my finest memories was when I made a Minky gift for a client turned friend from the 80’s. She recently had a stroke and surprised her with a Minky lap blanket. I get so much enjoyment out of making Minkys for others and see them smile.
Great post.
Thanks Amanda, I love the Minky blankets.
