Making an Artichoke for Pop
For my Friday Story Time by Lia I’m making an artichoke for Pop. He loves them and this is the first time I helped Ma get it ready and I learned a new cooking project.
The first step is to carefully cut the sharp points off the outside leaves. Of course Ma was right with me when I used the scissors. We all have to be very careful when using scissors or knives because they are very sharp. As soon as I’m done with them, Ma washes them and puts them right away.
I’ve got all the sharp points cut, I washed the artichoke and next I pulled the leaves apart to get ready to add the stuffing.
I made the stuffing out of bread crumbs with Italian seasoning and enough oil to hold the bread crumbs together. Carefully I spooned the mixture in between the artichoke leaves. Since today’s post is to share a video, I’m sharing how I stuffed the artichoke so you can see how easy it is!
LOOK AT THE ARTICHOKE THAT I MADE FOR POP! It’s ready to put in a pan with water and steam it, covered, for about an hour on medium heat. If you make one you need to check to make sure their is always water in the bottom of the pan so the artichoke doesn’t burn. Ma said to cover the bottom of artichoke with about an inch of water. Then we wait!
Since Pop didn’t know we were surprising him with an artichoke, I called him over to the kitchen so he could see the finished surprise. Pop looked at it and said it smelled so good and yes he was super surprised. I like helping Ma cook different things and making an artichoke for pop was not only fun but I’m learning at the same time.
Thanks for stopping by and reading my blog this week. I wonder what my next exciting Friday Story Time by Lia will be… you’ll have to stop back next week and find out! I’ve never eaten an artichoke. Thanks for showing how to cook one. I’m sure it’s delicious, Lia.
The inside of the leaves are the only part you eat Lily, other than the heart in the center. Where the stuffing is, you drag your teeth over it and get the stuffing and the “meaty” part of the leaves! Let me know if you try it!
I have never succeeded at cooking an artichoke.
Well, we’ll have to send Lia up to show you how Roy! LOL Actually I don’t eat them but love making them for Rich.
Lia I love artichokes. My pop made them for me when I was little. I never knew how making them was so easy. Thank-you for sharing your recipe.
How ironic that your pop made artichokes for you Brenda! Lia loved making them for her pop!
Yay Lia! Good job! Looks yummy!
Lia says thank you Angie! She loves helping me in the kitchen and always enjoys trying to things.
Great job, Lia. That looks good.
Lia says thanks Amanda!
