M is for Mountains
M is for Mountains
The middle letter of the alphabet is M but that’s not the word for my A to Z Blog Challenge. Peaceful, serene, and beautiful is what I think of for my letter today in M is for Mountains. We live on the coast and a stones throw from the ocean so mountains are few and far between here. But, take about a five hour drive and we are in the beautiful Smokey Mountains.
Hubby and I love to sneak away for a night after so often to the are that puts us back in time. We stay in Cherokee, North Carolina and this is the view from our suite.
We love to take a slow ride through the Smokey Mountains National Forest, heading towards Gatlinburg, Tennessee. Now I’m the type that always has to have my phone and internet with me but driving through the forest, there is no service, not even phone service! But the mountains and scenery are so beautiful, I don’t even think of using my phone except for taking photographs!
Traveling a little more north, we come to Grandfather Mountain with this gorgeous view from the suspended bridge crossing the gorge. On a windy day, the bridge actually swags!
We are originally from upstate New York and when two of our grand children were small, we flew them up to visit Whiteface Mountain. It’s high up and was very cold. These two cuties are now 17 and 20, so this was quite a few years ago.
We always knew our now 28 year old grandson would climb to higher heights. I took this picture when he was a few years old, beginning to climb his mountain to success. Okay, it’s not a big mountain, but for a little tyke, even climbing a manure pile is quite a hike.
Now these are mountains! From the manure pile to the Swiss Alps, was my grandson’s beautiful view on a recent trip he took to Switzerland.
Mountains are so beautiful and a place where we love to go to get away from the hustle and bustle. It’s a place hubby and I go to relax and breathe the fresh air and just watch the nature.
There are so many things that I love and these are just a few of the beautiful mountains for the letter ‘M’ in the A to Z April Blog Challenge The challenge is to write a blog starting with the first letter of the alphabet on day one and continue through the month every day except Sunday. For the previous letter, I wrote about L is for Love and Loving , my hubby and I have been in love for over 50 years. Please share your blog link in comments if you are taking part in this challenge, I’d love to read yours!
Another great blog challenge is the Ultimate Blog Challenge . The challenge is to write a blog a day for the month of April and so far I’ve completed it every day.
Hi Martha!
What a lovely post! I live near the beach too – but the Glasshouse Mountains are only a 20 minute drive away, and we can see them from our bedroom windows. They’re a lovely sight – but your Smokey Mountains look BEAUTIFUL! I’d love to visit North Carolina one day – of all the places in America, it (and New York, where my brother and his family live) are the two places I’d like to see first-hand, rather than through photos.
Oh, and congratulations on making 50 years married! My hubby and I made 20 years married last November. And we’re extremely proud of that!
Hi Ceridwyn, Since I wasn’t sure where the Glasshouse Mountains were, I did a search, BEAUTIFUL!!! I am actually from upstate NY, in the Adirondacks but moved to South Carolina in 1994. One of our grandsons live in New York City. I’m so glad I stumbled across your blog on the A to Z Challenge and look forward to reading more of your wonderful posts. Congratulations on your 20 years of marriage, something definitely to be proud of. My hubby and I plan to make many more years of memories together. Thanks for stopping by and great to meet you!
I have been through the Smoky Mountains. One day I wish to go through the rocky mountains.

Oh yes, I’d love to go to the Rocky Mountains also Sandy. But that may only be in my dreams. Thanks for visiting.
Yes, the Glasshouse Mountains certainly are unique 🙂 thank you!
And thanks also on your congratulations – and as for stopping by, you’re more than welcome!
Loved reading…. we love mountains as well and the Himalayas cast a spell on us time and again we visit
I have only seen the Himalayas in photos and they are beautiful. I can only dream if seeing them in person but can only imagine their breathtaking view. Something about mountains, they’re peaceful, tranquil and a gorgeous site, casting a spell is a great description. Thanks for visiting Soma.
