Lots of Books
WOW it’s Friday Story Time by Lia already! It seems like I just posted about my baking projects from last week. Today I have a few exciting things to tell you. I’ve been very busy at school, my teacher is proud of how well I’m doing and we are selling candy for school activities and I sold my entire box in one day! I also learned how to tie my sneakers a few weeks ago. I’ve been able to do the first loop for awhile but had problems trying to stick the other loop around it but I finally got it! Ma told me when she was in Kindergarten she was excited when she learned to tie her shoes too. But I’m most excited because I am also learning to read! I have so many books, some were my mommy’s when she was my age and I can now read some from cover to cover. Last year in 4K I learned the different parts of a book, the front cover, title page, spine, and back cover and now in Kindergarten I’m reading the books.
Dolly Parton’s Book Club
When I was a few months old, Ma signed me up for the Dolly Parton’s Imaginary Library Book Club. When you become a member, everyone who joins receives a free book in the mail every month until they turn 5 years old. I turned 5 last August and I have collected almost 60 books!
This was one of the first books I received when I was just a baby! Every month when I got a new book, Ma would read me the story.
I have so many books and I keep all of Dolly’s books together. I have some at Ma’s house and some at daddy’s house. Ma said when I’m through reading them she is going to put them in the big trunk she has for my memories. Then maybe I will find someone I can pass them down to, Ma says maybe my own daughter.
It’s exciting learning to read and last night I read Ma and Snowball a book while we were in my Princess room tent. I have one more Friday Story Time by Lia for the month, I wonder what I will write about!
It’s so good that she enjoys Reading. It’s so important.
Yes it is very important Amanda, I’m so proud of Lia.
Lia, that is such a rich and exciting opportunity you have had, to get all those books reviewed and sent out by Dolly! She is an amazing woman who grew up very poor. She grew up in a one-room cabin with something like 11 siblings. She was smart and determined, and now her songs are heard all over the World. Hang onto those beautiful books!
I have always admired Dolly from her songs and the movie of The Coat of Many Colors. That song reminds me of my grandmother when she would make my clothes and she eve made a coat made from my cousin’s Navy coat! I’m so glad Lia got a chance to be in Dolly’s book program and she says Thank you Kebba!
Lia is growing up fast! I love reading about her antics and the ordinary simple life she lives.
Sometimes too fast Kate! Antics she has and it’s so much fun to watch her explore life.
Lia, you are an impressive young lady, and I can totally understand why your teacher is proud of you! You’re learning so many things at such a high speed while being kind and cheerful to everyone.
Learning to read will open a whole new world to you and inspire your writing even more!
Have a wonderful weekend!
Lia says thank you Tamara. I’m so glad she loves reading and it’s sweet when we both crawl into her Princess tent and she reads me a story!
Hi Lia,
Thanks for telling us about your collection of books and how you are able to read some of them from cover to cover.
My grand daughter is about your age and she is learning to read and write too. Maybe I should send her a message to ask her if she can tie her shoes? The last time I saw her she was buying new shoes with Velcro straps.
It is great to read your Friday Blogs, blog on!
Lia says, thank you Doug! I’m so glad she enjoys reading and learning about so much.
Good for you, beautiful girl. Keep reading. I love the idea of receiving a book a month for 5 years. What a library you must have now. Enjoy!
Lia says thank you and she loves reading Karen. When she get’s through reading and re-reading these I will pack them away for her to look back on memories…and even share them if she has a little one.
I love reading to Lia and do it every night before bed. If only C would follow me in reading it would be amazing but I don’t think that will happen. I have a tub of C’s books for him to give his children as well as some of his sister’s books who is in Heaven now.
Lia says I love to read Glenda! I’m amazed at how well she can read some words that are super long!
