Life with Louie
We all need laughter in our lives so today I’m sharing a bit of humor. Back when my granddaughter was a few years old she loved Life with Louie canned pasta, this is the story of Life with Louie.
Many of you know I save everything and I mean EVERYTHING! Well some how we ended up with a can of Life with Louie pasta that got pushed to the back of the pantry. Back in December of 1999 when we moved to our new home the can resurfaced but the shelf life was dated August 1999. Since Alexandra like Louie, I kept the can on top of the refrigerator so she could see him. Years went by and I kept looking at the can realizing even though it was ten years later I didn’t have the heart to toss Louie. So he had his permanent location on the fridge. Another ten years plus went by.
Last month I participated in the January De-Stress you Mess challenge where I started de-cluttering and reorganizing the house. We’ve completed two rooms and the next to get worked on was the kitchen. As we started boxing things from the cupboards to get ready for our remodel I saw Louie still sitting on the top of the refrigerator with his big smile. I picked up the can and it sounded like a maraca when I shook it! Yes it was time to give Life with Louie his final farewell. But not before Alexandra took a few videos and narrated them as I opened the can.
We said our good-byes to Louie as I opened the can of shaped pasta with tomato and cheese sauce. But it didn’t look anything like that! The can was a ball of petrified Louie pasta! It looked like a ball of rusted wire.
Life with Louie was definitely over even though we could make out his little Lou smile. It was time to say good-bye to the can dated 22 years ago. It was probably more like 23 years old, almost the same age as Alexandra! We gave Louie a proper good-bye as we tossed him in the trash can. Yes Louie had a great life on top of the refrigerator, sitting there smiling and never bothering anyone but there comes a time when even I realize enough is enough to saving things!
Oh wow! That;s so funny. It’s almost like a piece of abstract art! 🙂
I never thought of that Francine! Maybe I should have put it in a shadow box and sold on Ebay for $10,000! LOL Too late, Louie is no recycling center heaven.
Cool vintage post in every sense of the word right here. Haven’t seen this brand anymore. Are they still making this?
I haven’t seen Louie lately Jojo but Alexandra switched from Louis to Ramen noodles years ago. LOL
I have always had this food for my children and my nephew but I don’t remember Life with Louie and I can’t ask my daughter about it. But I wonder if my nephew has heard of him and eaten him. I might have to post this question on my Facebook wall and see if my sister or my niece answers. Or my brother.
Louie was from years gone by Glenda but he was a fixture in our house for many years.
I’m a huge Louie fan and loved your story. Thanks for the smiles!
I’m glad Louis made you smile Victoria. Every now and then we all need to be on the lighter side!
This is beyond funny lmao
LOL Alex, I just realized when someone commented about it being like a piece of abstract art. We should have put it in a shadow box and sold on Ebay for $10,000! LOL
interesting post.
Louie had a good life Amanda! LOL
I found your write-up while looking up my cans – practically the same story, with Louis’ watchful eyes observing everything from atop my fridge for two decades. Too funny to ever throw out, always good for conversation. One of my cans rattles, the other hasn’t evaporated yet. Slightly different labels, too. One has him on the swing and the other is him running with the family in the background, both using a green field and tree as a backdrop (no floating noodle images or the “NEW” insignia.)
R.I.P. Louie.
How cool is that Buck! Louie has been around a long time! Thanks for stopping by to visit Louie!
