Lia’s Sunshine Bakery Fundraiser for Alzheimer’s

It’s Friday Story Time by Lia a day early but I wanted to share my excitement with you! For those who may not have met me yet, I’m 3 years old and I have joined The Longest Day Fundraiser for Alzheimer’s. The Longest Day is the day with the most light — the summer solstice. On June 21, thousands of participants from across the world come together to fight the darkness of Alzheimer’s through an activity of their choice to raise funds and awareness for the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer’s Association. I love sharing my smiles and sunshine plus baking so this day is perfect for Lia’s Sunshine Bakery fundraiser.

I have my list of things I’ll be baking for my fundraiser….. cookies, brownies, zucchini bread, banana bread (some will have chocolate chips and some will have cranberries added) and peanut butter fudge. This is a picture when I opened Lia’s Sunshine Bakery and had my first bake sale in April. Everyone loved the brownies and blueberry muffins the best so I have to make those again!

Shopping Day for Baking Supplies

I went shopping to stock up on some baking supplies for my fundraiser that will be in a few weeks. I want to make sure I have everything needed when I start baking so I had my list ready and off to the store I went with ma and pop.

The first stop was for zucchini and bananas for my bread. Ma showed me how to check the zucchini to make sure it didn’t have soft spots on the ends. Then I picked the best bunch of bananas.

I was checking out the muffin liners and thought I found the best ones until I saw some pink ones in boxes that were so pretty. I just had to get them! Then I found the dried cranberries, I love to add those to my banana muffins and some cookies too!

After checking my list and the store flyer, I was done shopping for now and headed to the register with a full cart.

I got to the register and pop helped me unload the cart while I put everything on the counter. I even put the credit card in the machine when the cashier was finished ringing up everything. I want to thank my friends Sue and Steve for donating a gift card to help pay for some of the baking supplies needed for my Alzheimer’s fundraiser! I call them my official tasters because I surprise Sue and Steve with muffins and cookies to try after I’m finished baking. THANK YOU SUE AND STEVE!!

My great, great grandma had Alzheimer’s and passed away in January 2000. This is my mommy when she was about a year old visiting with her. I am participating in the Longest Day Alzheimer’s fundraiser in honor and memory my great, great grandma. So far I have received $400.00 in donations.

You can read more about The Longest Day Alzheimer’s fundraiser and my progress from the links below! If you can help with a donation, you can scan the QR CODE or donate through the links. Thank you to all who have already donated and helping me reach my goal. I have to get busy and start my baking soon for the Longest Day!

Lia what a wonderful thing you are doing. I am sure your bake sale will sell out. I too have family members who have passed because of Alzheimers.

    • Martha says:

Lia thanks you Brenda. It’s so sad to see loved ones go down hill with Alzheimers. It’s as hard for the caregiver as the patient. Hugs to you.

  2. Amanda Gene says:

Lia and GG Mama this post really touched my heart. My grandma, who I lived with died due to Alzheimer’s. I, along with my grandpa, and a professional caregiver, provided care for her for over four years. I hope one day they find a cure for this disease. Sending you hugs and success on your bake sale. 🙂

    • Martha says:

So sorry to hear your grandma had this dreaded illness Amanda. It’s such a cruel disease that robs memories from our loved ones. Hugs back to you!
