Lia’s Sunshine Bakery Alzheimer’s Fundraiser 2023
No it’s not Friday Story Time by Lia but I have an exciting story to share before the July UBC ends. This is my second year participating in the the Longest Day Alzheimer’s Fundraiser. Lia’s Sunshine Bakery Alzheimer’s Fundraiser 2023 started last fall and I had such a great year baking and Lia’s Sunshine Bakery Alzheimer’s Fundraiser. I’m doing this fundraiser in memory of my great, great grandmother who passed away from Alzheimer’s in 2000, way before I was born and also my little neighbor lady who was my best friend and passed away from Dementia last year. Ruthie would bring over her delicious chocolate drop cookies and I would bake my Italian cookies to share with her.
2022 Alzheimer’s Fundraiser
Last year was my first ever Lia’s Sunshine Bakery fundraiser and I had bake sales, garage sales and received so many donations from people I didn’t even know!
In 2022 I received $1780.00 in donations, became a Solstice Champion for reaching $1600.00 in donations plus I was one of the top 25 teams in South Carolina! But this was last year, look at this year!
2023 Alzheimer’s Fundraiser
The 2023 Alzheimer’s Fundraiser started last fall and our fall community garage sale was the perfect time to start my fundraising. I baked cookies, brownies, fudge and muffins and everything was sold out, receiving $240.00 in donations!
I wanted to have another bake sale and thought around Christmas would be good because some people are busy and don’t have time to bake. Then ma came up with the idea to make cookie boxes for a $10.00 donation. I posted on our community website and within seven days I received $240.00 so I had to get busy and get my baking done so I could deliver the cookie boxes before Christmas! Ma printed out my labels and I added them to the boxes plus we wrote a thank you note to each box. My Longest Day tote bag I received worked perfect to put the cookie boxes in when I delivered them.
My next biggest fundraiser was the spring community garage sale. Food Lion gave me a gift card to buy baking supplies and I did my own shopping and even ran the card in the machine. Since I had started school I didn’t have as much free time to bake so ma helped bake a few batches and when I got home I decorated them. But my sales also went to the dogs! I even made doggie biscuits, peanut butter ones and sweet potato ones. The sale was Saturday but it called for rain. All my cookies, what happens if it’s a rain out??
Saturday morning came and it wasn’t raining but the sky didn’t look good! Ma and pop helped me set up the bake sale under our porch just in case it was going to rain. We had non stop people stop at the garage sale and my Lia’s Sunshine Bakery fundraiser. But then it started to rain so the sale was postponed until the following Saturday. But people kept arriving even in the rain and after all my baked goods and doggie biscuits were gone, I had received about $500.00 in donations for Alzheimer’s!
When I started my fundraiser for 2023, my goal was to reach $1600.00 in donations! I did that and received my Solstice Champion shirt, hat and pin!
But I didn’t stop when I reached my goal. I was so close to reach $2000.00 so I told ma I wanted to do a mini bake sale last month. I made my Italian cookies, chocolate chip cookies and zucchini bread in the morning and was ready for my mini bake sale by the afternoon. In about an hour my total donations reached $2050.00!! Then a few more donations came in and Lia’s Sunshine Bakery fundraiser’s grand total of donations as of today is $2100.00!!! I want to thank everyone who donated to help with research and find a cure for Alzheimer’s. Ma is hoping that by the time my mommy reaches the age when Alzheimer’s and Dementia hits people that it will just be a memory.
These are my links that will go until the end of August when the 2023 Alzheimer’s Fundraiser is over. https://www.facebook.com/donate/520551062740766

What outstanding work you are doing, Lia. Congratulations on your success. I know that you making a personal difference in the war against Alzeimers, and I appreciate it. Unfortunately, I think this awful disease has touched everyone, so stopping it is very important. Thank you for being a doer who helps the world change! Your bake sale looked so delicious, and I know everyone from People to Pups enjoyed your cookies and treats. The boxes look so professional with your labels. Very impressive! Cindy Rae
Thank you so much Cindy and what a surprise when I got notified of your donation. THANK YOU!! I don’t want to see people sick and hopefully my part will help find a cure.

Thank you Jeanine, I love being able to help others and I love to bake so this has been a win-win!
Lia, how exciting that you overshot your goal! There is a saying, “many hands make light work.” So as you and many others raise your individual funds for Alzheimer’s research, the total effect is great. More progress with the disease is being made every year. God bless you for doing this. <3
Lia says, Thank you Kebba, I love baking and being able to share my cookies with sprinkles at my bake sales!
