Lia’s Sunshine Bakery Alzheimer’s Fundraiser

It’s another Friday Story Time by Lia and today I have some exciting news about Lia’s Sunshine Bakery Alzheimer’s Fundraiser. The Alzheimer’s Fundraiser year starts in September and goes through August. As you are reading this post, mommy and I will be on an airplane on my way to visit my aunt and uncle in Indiana.

End of 2024 Year

This is Lia’s great grandmother and I want to add this to Lia’s blog today. The 2024 Alzheimer’s Fundraiser has ended and I’m so proud of Lia throughout the year of ups and downs we’ve had. Thank you all who donated to Lia’s Sunshine Bakery. For her 3rd year in a row she reached Solstice Champion, raising at least $1600.00 each year through all your generous donations to help fight Alzheimer’s. She wasn’t able to attend the awards ceremony because she has school but that comes first! The head of the South Carolina Chapter sent Lia a video as I accepted her awards. Lia was in the top 25 participants and teams plus a Solstice Champion in the SC Alzheimer’s Fundraiser. Again a huge thank you from Lia and me for everyone who donated to such a worthy cause.

Beginning of 2025 Year

Okay Ma had her time, now it’s time for me to tell you about my first fundraiser for the 2025 Alzheimer’s Fundraiser.

Last Saturday was our annual community fall garage sale and I also had my Lia’s Sunshine Bakery fundraiser for year #4 of the Alzheimer’s fundraising.

I had Italian cookies, chocolate Halloween cookies, pumpkin/chocolate chip cookies, brownies with sprinkles and of course my doggy biscuits.

This year I added Sunshine cookies that were a sugar cookie with yellow frosting, sprinkles and candy corn around the edge to look like the sun. When baking my sweet treats, I add a small spoonful of yellow sprinkles to all my recipes so everything is filled with sunshine. 🌞

Our neighbor came over to help out with the sale and we all had a good time at my bake sale.

It was a long day but I had so many people making donations and eating cookies and brownies. Judy is our next door neighbor and we have so much fun together, even being silly with our funny faces.

We had an awesome turnout and between the garage sale and Lia’s bake sale and I raised $330.00 in donations! But after the sale I received another $120.00 from two friends that couldn’t make it to my bake sale bringing my total of donations from my first 2025 year fundraiser to $452.00. Thank you all who donated to Lia’s Sunshine Bakery Alzheimer’s Fundraiser!

Growing up surrounded by family and friends who contribute to the community as opposed to overindulge is so precious.

What an accomplishment- you must be so proud of Lia, Martha! It’s so great that she started this so young!
The middleschool my grandkids attend has volunteer days for the kids to do projects around the community.
My now 19 year old granddaughter and her group also raised funds to support the food bank and the animal shelter.

Last summer, the 13 year olds went with their combined youth group to the Yakima nation in Washington, for a learning and service trip.
I’m glad they have opportunities for such great experiences that also help others.

Congratulations, Lia!! You did such a great job raising money and baking and winning awards! It really touches my heart because my mom had Alzheimers. Before she got sick with Alzheimers, she was a baker, too, and I know that she would have been so proud of you.

    • Martha says:

Alzheimer’s is such a cruel illness Alice, it broke my heart to watch my mom fade away. I’m so proud of Lia for helping to make a difference and sweet that your mom was a baker also! Hugs to you.
