Lia’s Salmon Dinner
This is actually a post that Lia should write since it’s about Lia’s salmon dinner she made but me being a proud great grandmother had to share it. This is the first time she prepared salmon all by herself! This is Alaskan wild caught sockeye, my favorite!
Lia is very careful when using knives and scissors. Just like it was with her mommy when she was Lia’s age, if you teach them about safety and the correct way to use them, they will remember. I held the lemon as she cut it in half then she squeezed it for the beginning of her lemon/butter sauce. When I take pictures, I just keep snapping about hope for a great one. I had a few similar to her squeezing the lemon but this was my favorite with Lia’s eyes so focused on making sure the lemon juice went in the cup.
The next step was to sprinkle on the Fish Monger seasoning, this is my favorite seasoning for any fish but especially salmon. Lia looked at the large shaker holes so decided to cover part of them with her thumb so they wouldn’t come out too fast at first. It all takes patience and that she has! My contribution to the meal was making my green bean with slivered almonds and cranberries specialty side dish along with brown rice.
Lia’s salmon was ready to put in the pan with avocado oil and butter. This is the part where I helped but Lia was sure to tell me to be careful because the pan was very hot. After both sides were browned, I flipped it to the non-skin side and Lia drizzled her lemon/butter sauce over the top.
Lia’s salmon looked so good and my green beans and rice were ready. Everything was smelling so appetizing!
Dinner is just about ready, but wait, Lia is finishing up her chocolate drop cookies with edible glitter! What a yummy dessert she is making!
This isn’t just an ordinary dinner, it’s a dinner made with love for our neighbors whose hubby recently got out of the hospital. I remember her telling me they love salmon so that’s what was on their surprise menu!
I’m so proud of Lia and how she loves to share her love and smiles to others.
It is great how you have shared your cooking with her at such a young age. And now here she is cooking a full meal by herself (well, you made the green bean specialty side dish). The key to cooking is practice and having fun with it. You both seem to have mastered that part of it!
Thanks Paul, yes I enjoy cooking and creating new and different meals. I’m so happy that Lia is creating in cooking and baking too, we have so much fun together.
Hi Lia and Martha, what a wonderful surprise dinner you both made for your neighbors! Salmon is my favorite fish, I actually studied salmon with my students one year and we raised 1,000f fry (name of salmon out of egg sack) and released them in a creek by our school. I also love the edible glitter in the cookies, I never heard of that before but must try it! Thank you for sharing your wonderful cooking skills. Sending lots of love and gratitude. Jaime
Lia and I enjoy surprising out neighbors with baked goods and meals Jaime. How interesting to raise fry! Salmon is my favorite and I only buy Alaskan wild caught sockeye! Lia is so into glitter!
Martha, you two just made one of my favorite meals! I love that you and Lia remind each other to take care with tools and heat. <3
Another thing we have in common Kebba! Salmon is my favorite, Lia has tried it but doesn’t like it. I told her all the more for me! LOL She’s learning while having fun cooking.
This brings to my mind part of a Dr. Zeuse story about ” the things you can do”.
That’s us Doug, the things we can do!
Such a delicious dinner and dessert, and I’m sure your neighbors greatly appreciated the nice surprise!
They did Tamara and were so surprised!
I am so impressed. What’s free seasoning Lia used for the Salmon? Those drop cookies look yummy
Thanks Amrita, Lia did great on her first meal she made almost all by herself. Fish Monger seasoning is a blend of seasonings for any kind of fish. I usually save it for salmon because it’s so delicious! The cookies were super soft and full of glitter!
That looks so good!
Lia did great on her first meal prep Amanda!
