Lia’s Princess Playroom
Before I begin I have to tell you I save everything and I mean everything! I never know when someday I may need something. I participated in a 5 day De-Stress your Mess Challenge a few weeks ago and I’ve been decluttering, reorganizing, donating things, selling things and tossing so many things I thought I needed! During this class the instructor told us there are 7 days in a week and “someday” isn’t one of them. So I’m off to a good start at letting things go and Rich is the first to load them up for the recycling center! He has been shredding papers for a week! This past weekend Rich and I converted the computer room/office into Lia’s Princess playroom!
I don’t have a room shot of before but let me just say the room was full! No, it was overfull! These pictures show the work in progress. I have a large computer hutch and a few years ago we added a computer desk with hutch and rolling filing cabinet. While starting the de-cluttering I realized both weren’t needed and one had to go. So I cleaned out the entire six foot high hutch to sell. While I was cleaning it out, more than half the things went to the recycling center. I originally had the desk hutch on top of a row of filing cabinets and it worked well but my new plan was to put it on the desk top.
So I’m looking at a cleaned off desk and hutch getting ready to list the large hutch for sale. But then I had a thought… I love the hutch, when I’m not using the computer everything is neatly stored behind closed doors and it would look much neater than having things on an open desk. So I changed my plan and got rid of the desk instead of the computer hutch!
There were also three filing cabinets in the room that I still use for storage so I planned to move them to the MBR closet. Once hubby got them upstairs, I changed my mind….again! I took our old round table night stands and changed them out for the filing cabinets! More on this room when I get to de-cluttering the master bedroom but that will be a ways down the road! But this just shows that this is a good way to re-purpose things!
So everything was out of the room that needed to be and now it was time for the fun room makeover! The Princess tent was already in the room and the two unicorn panels were ones I got as a review product. They worked perfect to add color to the wall that didn’t have windows and I hung them on spring tension rods under my Angel shelves. Another re-purpose item is the bookshelf. That was upstairs with some embroidering supplies but since I embroidering machine is now in the sewing workroom, I moved them and hubby brought the bookshelf down for Lia’s books.
This is my corner and since I don’t use it full time I decided to get rid of the bulky computer chair that wasn’t needed. Instead I kept the side chair that I covered to match the draperies. I have to arrange the items on top of the hutch but for now they work where they are.
Check this out, Lia has an exercise corner in her playroom! She loves to jump on her trampoline and now it is in a dedicated space. I like the set up of her room, it’s in front of the TV room and there is a partial wall where her tent is with a four foot opening so while she’s playing we can see her and she can see us.
The art wall is my favorite! I am in the process of hanging priceless art work from our grands and great grandchildren. These are the best kind of gifts we love to receive.
The room makeover for Lia’s Princess playroom is complete! It even has a gated entrance to keep Rusty out when he’s not on his best behavior.
When Lia came home Sunday afternoon, she went in her room and looked around where everything was. The first thing she did was move a few things on her shelf and move her bucket of blocks to the other side of the shelf from where I had them. She know where she wanted what! After dinner she went back in her playroom, came out and said, “I love my house!” The only thing we need to add is a welcome sign for her front door!
Last week we completed the upstairs room that use to be our grandchildren’s playroom. Now it’s a room where Rich can see his Nascar and Harley collectibles once again and Lia has room to hang out! This is the blog I shared for Wordless Wednesday about this room. http://themarthareview.com/de-clutter-one-room-at-a-time/
Glad to see you are finding ways to shed things- and repurpose others. The look on Lia’s face made it all worthwhile.
I am so proud of myself for shedding things Roy! I’ve always been one to repurpose so I can still get use of things that don’t fit in one place but work in another. I’m so ready to continue on to the next room! Lia was away for the weekend and when she came home Sunday afternoon, her face lit up like a lightbulb and was so excited. All we need now is a “Welcome to Lia’s house” sign by her “front door” 🙂
Martha, that is fantastic!!! You did such a wonderful job! I love your clever repurposing. I know Lia loves it, too. And how cute that she decided just where her things should go.
Thanks Jeanine! I’m so excited to be on my de-cluttering journey! To some this might not be a big deal but me being a mini hoarder, is so great for me to get rid of so much! Working on the kitchen next!
I love your angel collection. I am glad Rich now has a place to display his collections. I must say the art wall is my favorite. But, I do love the blanket Lia and Alexander had made for Rich. I am sure my little sunshine you have hours of fun in her new home.
Thanks Brenda, I’m so excited every time I get another project completed. The upstairs room hasn’t looked like this in years! The blanket is Rich’s prized possession and while Alex said to put it on his chair to wrap up in when it’s cold, he doesn’t want anything to happen to it! Where it’s hanging, he can see it from the TV room too! Little Miss Sunshine loves her new “home” and the art wall is my favorite also. Now we have a spot for all our prized art work from the little ones!
Such a great make over, little work, but priceless,
But we had so much fun tossing things and you did lots of shredding Rich!
What a neat project!! I’ve been on a similar path this week- put together a bookcase to house the books I use daily for my writing purposes! Plus books give me a sense of comfort and even safety! Lia is so precious! Thanks for sharing!
Sounds like you accomplished things too Kate! Lia loves having her books on shelves instead of the little cubes they had been in.
What a great playroom, Lia. I’m sure you are enjoying it.
“I love my new playroom Amanda! I have so much room for everything!”
