Let the Baking Begin

I’m getting excited about Lia’s Sunshine Bakery fundraiser for Alzheimer’s I’m having on Monday June 20th! Since today is Friday Story Time by Lia, I’m continuing to share my story about The Longest Day Alzheimer’s Fundraiser. Last week I went shopping for items to do my baking and if you missed that blog, here it is…. http://themarthareview.com/lias-sunshine-bakery-fundraiser-for-alzheimers/

I have three days until my fundraiser and I’ve started my baking! Monday morning Lia’s Sunshine Bakery will be set up with cookies, brownies, muffins and fudge so i have to get busy! I started making banana muffins! I mashed the bananas, cracked the eggs and mixed all the ingredients.

I made plain banana muffins and some I added chocolate chips to the batter. I got pretty cupcake liners and used different patterns for the different flavors. They smell sooooo good!

After making two dozen muffins there was a little batter left so I made some mini muffins for us to try! I ate FOUR of them, they were SO good!

Next it was blueberry muffin time! Ma says my blueberry muffins are the best because I load them up with fresh blueberries.

I finished today’s baking with brownies, chocolate chip cookies and Mounds cookies (they are chocolate chip with coconut added)! Look how big I made these!

When I posted about my fundraiser I also had a “pre order” donation option. If anyone wasn’t going to be around on the day of my bake sale, they can make a donation and let me know. I just finished boxing up a selection of my bakery items to give to those who aren’t able to get to my bake sale.

Some of my readers may remember my little neighbor lady who I’ve known forever. We would exchange smiles and cookies Well we had some sad news the other night. Our little neighbor lady who recently moved into hospice with dementia and alzheimers’s passed away. Ruthie and I were such great friends even though there was 87 years between us. We would share cookies with each other, her chocolate drop cookies were so good! I loved to make baskets of cookies or brownies and other little gifts for Ruthie. During Covid, it was hard for a 2 year old to understand why I couldn’t go visit with my best friend. So we made a big sign and I held it up for Ruthie to see from across the street. In the summer of 2020 Ruthie moved into assisted living and slowly she started going down hill. We have lots of wonderful memories of the visits with Ruthie, she will always have a place in our hearts but how I wish a cure could be found for Alzheimer’s. This is why Lia’s Sunshine Bakery is participating in the Longest Day Alzheimer’s fundraiser . I just donated $25.00 in memory of Ruthie and my total donations have reached $445.00!

You can make a donation in honor of memory of a loved one here with credit card or Paypal http://act.alz.org/goto/LIA

My baking for today is done but I have lots more to do over the weekend. I started my fundraiser with a $500.00 goal and so far I’ve reached $480.00! I’m not stopping when I reach my goal because we need to find a cure for this before I get old! I’ll be back next week with an update on Lia’s Sunshine Bakery Fundraiser.
