Let That Quote Inspire You

Have you ever had a quote that stuck with you and you tried to follow it? Today’s suggested topic is just that so think of one let that quote inspire you.

“If we want to explore deeper oceans, we first have to leave sight of the shore”

This is a blog I wrote a few years back about my favorite quote that I want to share with you. I use this as my motto on my blog and throughout life. http://themarthareview.com/my-favorite-quote/

Quote for Today’s Blog

“If someone gives you a handmade present they are not being CHEAP”

For me, whether giving or receiving, I love a unique handmade gift. I call it a gift from the heart or made with love.

This past Christmas I received two wonderful handmade gifts that I will treasure forever!

These are two of my great grandson’s hand prints on a plaque, there is nothing more precious than a gift like this.

This is another gift from the heart I received for Christmas. My granddaughter decoupaged a picture of our great granddaughter on an ornament, added glitter and Lia’s name and year on the back. This will be treasured forever.

I also love to surprise others with handmade items. Sometimes it’s not for any reason, just a “because I want to”. One of the items I love to give are my Minky blankets. Yes I create and sell them to customers but I also enjoy sharing the love and surprising people. I have wrapped love around many for baby showers and Christmas gifts.

The most special was when I heard a dear friend we’ve known since the 1980’s had a stroke and was in rehab. I remembered we decorated her master bedroom in a navy blue with pink flowers and she also had a cute pig collection. I found an adorable Peppa Pig fabric with almost the same colors as her bedroom and created a Minky blanket for her. I made it the size of a lap blanket so she could use with her wheelchair.

As I was writing this blog, I just received a message from my friend’s daughter saying she just received the package and it brought joy to her. Seems like it was extra special for snuggling up with because they had to put her cat to sleep today. So this “made with love” package arrived at the perfect time.

Birthday Cake

So my mom was a professional cake decorator made awesome looking and tasting cakes! Me on the other hand, missed my calling when it came to cake decorating, I took after my grandmother with sewing. The other day I made a birthday cake for my granddaughter’s sweetie and it looked like Lia may have done a better job! I added a bit of food coloring to some of the left over frosting, added that to my meat injector and wrote our Stevie’s name. Not having enough to write Happy Birthday, I added some left over football decorations I had saved from cupcakes. I also didn’t have a #2 candle so I improvised on that also. I turned a #5 upside down, hollowed up some of the wax and stuck a candle in it. I thought it was quite ingenious of me however my grand daughter looked at me like, “MAAAAAAAAAAAAAA is that number upside down?!

Bottom line, Stevie loved the blue colored cake and decorated name to go with the Panther’s football team he follows. He didn’t even notice the upside down number!

When my sister saw my cake on my Facebook post she commented,
“Mom would be so – cough cough – proud of you!!”  Okay Nancy, I hear your loving sarcasm there. LOL But another comment said. “Ingenious!
Looks pretty darn good to me!! That’s your creativity.”
I could have purchase a store bought cake but I love doing special things even if it doesn’t look the greatest, it’s packed with love from my heart.

Gifts from the Heart

I love gifts from the heart, they are so unique, made with love and mean so much! The handmade gifts that I receive are so special and I will cherish them forever. Quotes can be quite inspirational in many ways and this is one I love to follow.

Love the quote! I always like receiving homemade cards because I know that it took time and effort on the part of the giver.

    Thanks for sharing!

Oh yes, I love the homemade cards also Paul! I have an Angel made from a paper plate that my now 15 year old granddaughter made for me when she was about 3 or 4. It’s hanging on my wall and the most beautiful Angel!

I love both of your quotes and remind myself of the ocean one, or one similar, often. I saw your sister’s comment on Facebook and wondered about it, was it loving sarcasm or laughter? At my house it would’ve been laughter because my mom didn’t cook, decorate, or sew. 🙂 A homemade gift comes from the heart and is created with love.

My mom was a beautiful cake decorator and mine looked like it was made by a 5 year old Nita. LOL I’m thinking my sister’s comment was a combination but either way Stevie loved the cake and that’s all that mattered in my book. I’ve always said gifts that come from the heart mean so much more. Thanks for visiting!

Your cake made me smile, because that candle trick was clever, and because everyone in my family is similarly proficient with icing. And homemade gifts really are the best!

so true this! I treasure those handmade gifts I have received over the years and they will stay with me way longer …

I love handmade gifts Vidya! I’m making memory boxes for each of my 7 grandchildren and plan to put the memories each made in their boxes when the time comes. I want them to stay in the family even after I’m gone.
