Lakeside Lodge and Marina
We recently went on a road trip to Maine and was it beautiful! Lia wrote a blog last week on her exciting trip to maine. where we visited Arcadia National Park at Bar Harbor and she also got a tour of a dairy farm! AND WE GOT TO SEE AND HEAR THE LOONS EVERYONE MORNING!! But today I’m going to tell you about the Lakeside Lodge and Marina in East Wintrop where we called home for the week. It was absolutely the perfect place to stay!
We stayed in Lodge #9 which was a lakeside view and it was just a few steps from Cobbossee Lake. Every morning we walked outside to hear and see the loons, it was so peaceful and beautiful. This was our view steps from our door!
Lakeside has a variety of cabins, lakeview and lakeside lodges. The entire area has such a relaxing feel and everyone was so friendly. We had a lakeside lodge with only steps to the lake!
Our lodge had two double beds plus a twin rollaway if needed. The kitchen was fully equiped with stove, refrigerator, microwave and toaster. It had dishes, pots and pans and linen and towels were even included. There was one door on the parking side and two doors opening to the lakeside.
Every morning we would take a walk around the docks to watch the loons swim in and just enjoy the beautiful scenery. The weather was perfect with just light drizzle early morning and beautiful rainbow to start our day!
My sister lives in Augusta Maine which is only a few miles from where we stayed. We planned this trip while visiting my two sisters when we went to Schenectady NY in July for Rich and my 55th wedding anniversary. When I asked Nancy to get me a list of hotels in the area she told me we don’t want to stay in any of them. Most were in the city where it looked like every other motel stacked next to each other with no view. She sent me the link to Lakeside Lodge and Marina and as soon as I saw the pictures I knew this was were we had to stay. Canoes and kayaks are available for the guests plus they have boat rentals. The entire area has a “camp” feeling and there is even a camp store with a cafe and a tackle shop with lots a fishing gear available.
The White Duck Pub, also owned by the lodge owners is a restaurant within walking distance from Lakeside Lodge with the most delicious menu items! My sister ordered an appetizer of loaded fries with gravy and cheese balls, OMG they were delicious! This french fry dish is called Poutine and it originated in Canada. French fries covered in brown gravy with cheese curds sprinkled in. It tastes far better than it sounds! Everyone ordered something different so our table was very colorful with delicious food!
Lakeside Lodge and Marina is a two family owned business. Zach and Sarah Stewart are both Maine natives that grew up together just a stones throw away from Cobbossee Lake and now have two daughters. Travis and Kelsey Mills have been married 11 years and have two children, a boy and a girl. Some may have heard of Travis Mills as he is a recalibrated warrior who sustained injuries in Afghanistan during combat. He lost portions of both arms and legs. He now spends time with the Travis Mills Foundation supporting recalibrated veterans and their families. Travis was injured and healed and he didn’t want to be called a “wounded warrior” because his wounds had healed. Instead, he referred to himself as recalibrated. He adjusted to his new normal and he recalibrated.
If you plan a trip to the Augusta area in Maine I highly recommend you checking out Lakeside Lodge and Marina. It’s an awesome place to stay where everyone is friendly and the prices are very reasonable! It’s like a home away from home! Oh and they have great ice cream too! Gifford’s is one of the most popular brands in Maine. This was a MEDIUM sized ice cream cone! Ishould have taken a picture of the large!
It looks like you had a lovely time. Thank-you so much for sharing all the beautiful photos and sharing your vacation with the world.
Oh Brenda, it was so spectacular in Maine. The weather, the coastline, the loons and seeing my sister were are great! Lia loved it too.
The ice cream came from Gifford’s – one of the most popular brands in Maine. Glad I was able to share a little piece of my new home state with you!!
Love,
NeeNee
That’s it Nancy! Thanks for the memory check! We had a super great time and next time we come up, we’ll be flying so we can spend more time there and less driving!
Hi Martha and Lia, what a fantastic trip you had up in Maine. That Lakeside Lodge looked like it was the perfect home away from home, and what a gorgeous lake! I might just be heading in that direction very soon, so I will check out your suggestions! Thank you for sharing. Sending lots of love. Jaime

Oh yeah – one more thing. The french fry dish is called Poutine and it originated in Canada. French fries covered in brown gravy with cheese curds sprinkled in. It tastes far better than it sounds!
See that, I learned two things from you today Nancy! I’ll edit my blog and add that!
