Keyboard Stand Converted to Laptop Stand
Have you ever had a product that was meant to be for a particular item but you became creative and came up with a new idea? I do this quite often and the latest was a keyboard stand converted to laptop stand.
I ordered a very sturdy keyboard stand and it was so easy to put together. No tools were needed, I just had to attach the feet then the center support bar with the enclosed wing bolts. It can be extended in both the width and height very easily with the threaded knobs. The frame is about 1 1/2″ diameter heavy duty metal and with the offset center support, there is plenty of foot and leg room when using this stand. Both the width and height can adjust from about 22″ to 33″ and the width is 16″ depth. I was pleased with the quality of this Plixio Keyboard Stand, from the construction, the ease of assembling and the overall looks of the black matte frame. This is the link if you need a heavy duty keyboard stand:

I had an older, center leg laptop stand that was very unstable and I was looking for one that was more heavy duty since I’m constantly rolling the stand.
The keyboard stand is perfect and so sturdy with the two ends instead of just a center leg. But the narrowest width was too wide for my laptop so this is where I became creative. I decided to add a plywood top to the stand and hubby cut a piece the width and depth of the stand, drilled holes through the frame and attached the top with nuts and bolts.
I painted the plywood black to match the stand and it looks like it’s meant to be!
The keyboard stand came with stationary feet so I took the roller feet from my old stand and replaced them on the new stand. This keyboard/laptop stand will last me for a very long time if not forever!
EDITED AFTER WRITING THIS BLOG: After I had my computer all set up, as I would be typing I realized my arms just above my wrists would cut into the edge of the wooden top. So I came up with a solution to add a wrist support from a pool noodle! I sliced the foam circular noddle on one side, cut out a section in each corner where the metal supports are then slipped it over the edge of the plywood top and VOILA, no more sore wrists! Now Iām ready for blogging away and the noodle only cost a dollar!
2nd EDIT: Since my conversion, I also attached a shelf under the plywood. It’s just the right size to keep my folder I use every time I’m on the computer. http://themarthareview.com/step-by-step-guide-to-shelf/
truly enjoy your makeovers with all that you have at home š and i try something whenever i see your posts (but the results are not blog-worthy as of this time!)
I’m glad you enjoy my makeovers Vidya, I wish you would blog about yours, I know they would be blog worthy!
You’re right, it looks like it’s meant to be! It’s perfect.
Thanks Jeanine, I actually edited by post. I added a wrist support on the edge of the top with a pool noodle!
Very creative. I’ve been looking at a smaller stand that would go on my counter-top for the computer, or I could use it at the couch. Currently I”m using a TV tray at the couch, I love your rolling table.
Ah yes, the TV trays! I’ve used those until I got the center leg computer stand and that was so unstable. I’m very pleased with how this one turned out. Thanks for visiting Nita!
Very inventive, Marsha…Love it!
Thanks Carol, I love being creative and turning something into something else!
This is something I need! Thank you for this information
Glad you enjoyed the blog Vidhya! Thanks for stopping by.
