January was a Busy Month for God
My Mom
January was a busy month for God. On January 15, 2000 God called my mom back home. She had suffered a stroke plus she had Alzheimer’s. Mom was always happy to see us when we visited her in the nursing home. She couldn’t speak but we communicated with her eyes.
When we took Alexandra, her great granddaughter to visit, my mom would get so excited. Mom left to go home to her parents on January 15, 2000.
My Dad
My mom and dad had been married over 57 years when mom passed and dad was at such a loss. The two were always together and with mom gone, dad was unhappy. Six years later, dad developed aspirating pneumonia and was taken to the hospital. During the early morning of January 20, 2006 dad some how manage to unhook his IV’s to get to the thermostat and turned the heat up. He got back in bed, fell asleep and went home to be with my mom once again. He went peacefully and without pain.
I know my mom and dad were happy to be together once again and nothing can separate them ever again.
My Mother-in-law
My mother-in-law was 101 years old last September. When Rich and I celebrated our 50th Anniversary on July 29, 2017, we had five generations together. We had a picture taken of my mother-in-law, Rich and me, our oldest daughter, two of our grandchildren and one of our great grandchildren. The picture of a mom with her son, a grandmother, a great grandmother, and a great great grandmother is a memory keeper for sure.
Mother-in-law was getting very tired the past year and she has always missed her sister Rose who was called home over 20 years ago. The two were inseparable and it was time for them to be reunited. God called mother-in-law home on January 13, 2019. At 101 years old it’s not a sad time, it’s a happy reunion for them and to remember the memories.
This first picture is on Rich’s and my 25th wedding anniversary where we renewed our vows with mother-in-law and Aunt Rose along side of us. The other picture is mom at 100 years old, we drove 1000 miles because she needed her hair washed! I washed and styled it, she was happy.
Mom’s Poem
When my mom passed away, I wrote a poem and share it with those who have lost loved ones.
We are a gift from up above,
God sent us down with all his love.
There comes a time that he will say,
I need you home with me today.
All the memories of the past,
Forever in our hearts will last.
Circle of Life
I wrote a blog a few years ago about the Circle of Life, describing how a rose starts as a bud, blooms then loses the petals and dies. A new rose blooms and the process continues, just like in life. My mother-in-law passed away this month but a new life will be entering the world with in a week or so. Our grandson who is pictured in the five generation picture and his wife are expecting a bundle of joy very soon. So like the rose, the circle of life will continue. http://themarthareview.com/circle-of-life/
Your poem is a beautiful tribute to your mother.
Thanks Jen, I wrote it for my mom but love to share it when others pass away. She is so missed but I know she is pain free and happy to be back with my dad.
This is a very interesting read. I have seen many family members pass away in the months of January and February as well. For awhile I thought they wanted to be there with their families for the holidays on Earth but once those were over it was time to join the rest of the family in Heaven. Thanks for sharing!
That’s a great reasoning Jen I never thought of that! Thanks for stopping by.
this breaks my heart…. but then again, you’re right. We are all in the circle of life. This is an eyeopener – love the people we have in our lives while they are still here.
While it’s sad that m-i-l is no longer with us, she has also been reunited with her sisters who she has dearly missed for over twenty years. The circle of life will continue when our great granddaughter is born in a few weeks. Thanks for visiting Abigail.
hi Martha.
This is a lovely love filled story of the cycle of life.
Five generation pictures are definitely something special.
I have just read Jen Brice’s post on writing from the heart. You have just given us a beautiful example of what that looks like. Thanks you, Blog on!
I am glad we were able to get at least some of each generation in the picture Doug. It’s definitely a memory to cherish. I also read Jen’s post, I so enjoyed it!
