I Must Confess
I had a different blog topic in mind but I will have to hold up on that one because I must confess what we did on Monday.
A little background for those who are new to the challenge…. my hubby and I live in a small town outside of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and after 52 years, we closed our interior decorating business last fall. We both loved working, in fact it was hard to call it “work” because we met so many wonderful clients, turned friends and enjoyed decorating them homes. We would meet with the client, come up with the perfect window treatments or bed and bath ensembles, choose the fabric, then measure, fabricate and install them. But with me at 70 years old and hubby turning 73 had just undergone three hip replacements last year and looking at knee and back surgery this year, it was time to slow down.
Now I mentioned we lived on the coast, a stone’s throw from the ocean but since our children are grown, we stopped going to the ocean years ago, like over 20 years. When we went to an ocean front condo to decorate it, we would always say, “we’re going to the beach again” but we only viewed it from the condo balcony. It was like going to the ocean was not a priority and we never gave it another thought since we were too busy doing what we loved, making our clients happy when we redecorated their home, business or condo.
Awesome Sunrise
But today I must confess because that all changed Monday morning and we spent the morning on the beach watching the sunrise! IT WAS THE MOST AWESOME SIGHT! Something that we would always say we weren’t interested in going to the ocean turned into an incredible morning.
Our morning started with hubby and I walking down this dimly lite romantic path to the ocean. We got to the beach shortly after 5:00 AM and the sky was a beautiful shade of red that reflected on the water.
We waited patiently for 6:00 AM to arrive to watch the sunrise. We were at the farthest point and all you could see is water and a distant island. It was a toss up of whether to shoot a video or do still shots but the still shots won. It was the most AWESOME sight to watch the beauty in the sky slowly appear like a ball of fire.
Now here is the really interesting part, neither hubby nor I have even had a bathing suit on for over 20 years but we pulled the old relics out and they still fit! The water is over 80 degrees and was like bath water! I can’t believe we frolicked in the ocean, sunbathed and did absolutely nothing for FIVE HOURS! When 10:00 AM arrived, the tourists started waking up and were coming to the beach so that was our cue to bid our peaceful piece of God’s beauty good bye but we will be making this a weekly ritual now.
It’s been so long since I remember sticking my toes in the ocean and the sticky, salty feeling but it sure was a morning to remember and we’ll be having an instant playback real soon! Stay tuned for a few more chapters of our awesome day at the beach!
After looking at the footprints I made in the sand, it reminded me a saying.
And the Lord said, “When you saw only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you.”
All these photos were taken with my Google Pixel 2 XL and none have been edited.
Martha – what an inspiration you and your hubby are! Thank you for sharing your return to the beach… I love water and seek every chance to spend time near it, but it’s been a few years since Rob and I went to the beach also. Yup. You’ve inspired me.
We have always said we have no interest in going Lori, but once we saw the sunrise, it made us realize how much of God’s beauty we are missing. Hoping to make it again soon. Thanks for stopping by, now head to the beach for the day!
Beautiful pictures and one of my Bucket List is to visit a Ocean and I would like to before Charlie is grown and out of my home. Although after seeing your photos I just might wake C up this week to sit on the deck and watch the sun come up with me. It would be a perfect time to bond and chat before school starts.
It was so beautiful and peaceful at 5AM Glenda! Watching God’s beauty in the sky was awesome. We definitely will be going back.
Love the sunrise. You should try taking a time lapse next time (I’ll show you how if you don’t know how lol). Glad you’re spending your time having fun lol
You DEFINITELY have to give me a crash course on time lapse Alexandra! All I did was snap, snap, snap 🤣 I also started a video but thought still shots would be better. You come with us next time and we can video and snap photos. 🤩
Well all this time and I never knew I had a time lapse setting on my phone! Thanks for showing me how it works!! Now we have to go back for another sunrise view Alexandra! <3
Glad you two got to revel in the pristine beach. But 80F water is TFH for me!
It only took 20 plus years to get back to the beach Roy! The water is like bath water and the hotter it gets, the worse for hurricanes!
What beautiful pictures! Thanks for sharing the mini vacay. It was a fun read.
Thanks Lillian, it was like a little slice of heaven! We definitely will be going back soon.
We live in Florida and my husband never cared for the beach. At least not as much as me. However, as we have grown older, he is the one longing for a day by the sea. We go as often as our schedules will allow. Great photos Martha. Enjoy your new found tradition.
That sounds like my hubby Debi! He’s always said he hates the beach, but I think it’s more all the tourists that tend to turn him away. It was so peaceful and we had the entire beach to just a few people. He now wants to go back, go figure!

Whoops, on my previous comment I said “Jeannine” instead of “Martha. Sorry. That’s what happens when you read so many different blogs in this challenge. Love the post, Marth. :-/
No worries, I’ve done that also! But I edited so all is good! Thanks for visiting my blog.
Very nice captures, Martha. Just looking at them gave me peace. You must have enjoyed to the max. I envy you for having such a great bonding time with the hubby and with nature.
It was the most awesome sunrise and morning Bing! We will be celebrating our 52nd wedding anniversary on July 29th and I’m seeing a morning on the beach celebrating.
Truly awesome! Happy anniversary in advance!
Thank you Bing, we’re hoping to catch the sunrise again on our anniversary!
Happy day doing not a thing
When are we going back Rich?
I enjoyed this post a lot. I’m glad that you went back to the beach. The photos that you took are amazing.
Thanks Amanda, it’s been way too long since we had been there, planning on making it a steady date!
