I Made a Shell Necklace
You may remember my Friday Story Time by Lia last week about me going to the beach with mama and pop. I had such a fun time with my toes in the sand and I found lots of shells along the shore. The waves would wash them up and end up in piles that I would look through to find pretty ones. Some of the shells have little holes in them so when we got home mama and I sorted them out, washed them and I made a shell necklace!
After the shells were washed and dried I found two that were the perfect size to make a necklace from.
See the little holes on the top of each shell? They are perfect for craft projects or to make jewelry. The next step was to find something to thread the shells through. As usual mama searched through a drawer and found a skinny black cord and it even had ends on it to hook together to make a necklace!
I liked weaving the ribbon through the little holes in the basket I made for Rusty and my hair supplies basket but WOW threading the cord through the tiny hole in the shell took lots of patience! For the necklace I had to thread two cords together to make a loop for the little shell to hook on to.
The hole was so tiny on the little shell I needed to call mama in for assistance to help me pull the white string through it. We used dental floss to thread through the little shell! After we pulled it through, we looped the shell back through the loop and tied it around the loop on the black cord. Whew, that took some time and patience but we got it tied!
Next we had to find a box just the right size for mommy’s necklace, I found a perfect one! Mama cut a piece of Minky fabric and we put it inside the box and carefully placed the shell necklace in the little box. It was perfect!
Look at the heart shaped card that mama helped me cut out. I wrote, “Mommy and Lia Necklace” on the inside and “I love you more” on the outside. Mommy and I always say “I love you” then mommy says, “I love you more” than I tell mommy, “I love you more!” I put the card inside the box and closed it, waiting for mommy to come home to surprise her with the shell necklace.
When mommy opened the little box she was so surprised and excited to see her new shell necklace. I had so much fun working on my latest craft project, I never know what mama and I will come up with but I had fun when I made a shell necklace.
A shell necklace. So cool. Enjoy it, Lia.
Lia had a great time looking for shells at the beach Roy and even more fun making memories with the necklace.
What fun collecting shells and what fun turning two into a necklace! Great memories!
I love making memories with Lia and she enjoyed making mommy a necklace. I was going to suggest she save it for Christmas but we can never keep things a secret Kebba! LOL
That is so beautiful and sweet. Now, you need to make matching ones for you and Mama as well.
Well that’s a great idea Brenda! We sure have enough shells! Maybe Lia can make a bracelet for herself!
You are very crafty, lovely and loving.
Thank you Lily, I love doing projects with Lia. Her mommy was so surprised with her gift!
What a sweet craft. 🙂
We both had a fun time with the necklace Amanda. Lia’s mommy loved it.
