I Love You Mom

My mom and dad celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on October 16, 1993. My sister and I planned a big party and they renewed their wedding vows. Mom was already in the mid stages of Alzheimer’s but she was excited to see so many friends and family together.

By the following year, she took a turn for the worse so Rich and I packed up our decorating shop and moved to South Carolina so we could help dad with mom. By 1995 she had a stroke and we had to move her to a nursing home. Every night after we closed the shop we would go over and help her with dinner.

I remember when Alex wasn’t even a year old we would take her with us to see great grandma. Mom couldn’t talk but she communicated with her eyes and smile.

Mom passed away 26 years ago today, January 15, 2000, 10 days before her 79th birthday. Sometimes it doesn’t seem that long, other times it seems like forever since I’ve seen her.

Rich and I made mom’s memory garden and each year we would add something new. Pop and Lia would always take the rose petals that dropped off and spread them around the base of the large angel in mom’s garden.

Every time I see a penny on the ground, I look up and say thank you mom and put them in a dish. Seven years ago on Mother’s Day I took the pennies and made a heart bordered with dried roses for mom. My mom was the sweetest, most loving mother and always took care of others before herself. Mom and dad met on a blind date, they were married for 57 years, the same as Rich and I. Dad joined mom in heaven on January 15, 2006. I know they are happy to be reunited in their heavenly home.

I’m working on a project for mom’s 105th birthday coming up in 10 days and hope to have it completed on time to share for the blog challenge.

I love and miss you so much mom!

You Mom could not wish for a more wonderful tribute than your keeping her legacy alive each and every year by cherishing her garden and posting about her. She must have been so happy to be able to meet her great granddaughter!

Thank Tamara, for the first few years even though she could only communicate with her eyes I know she understood what we were saying. Something about having a little one visit makes a person open up and we could tell my mom was excited to see Alex. So many wonderful memories.

I can totally relate to this, as my mom passed away 14 years ago. You’re a sweet and loving daughter, and it shows. That’s a beautiful garden you’ve got! My mom was also a very caring and loving person. I still miss her and Dad up to this day and always will.

My mom was the sweetest and most loving mother Danwil and I will always remember her smile even though she couldn’t speak. I know her and my dad are happy to be together once again. Keep your mom and dad’s memory in your heart and they will always be near you.

  3. Martha, there is nothing like a Mom’s love. My Mom passed over 10 years ago, and like you, it seems like yesterday and a very long time. But I think we both know, they are still with us and, honestly, within us forever. I love your dedication to those you love and care about. You are an amazing person. Have some lovely memories today, and if you shed a tear, that’s ok, they are just the raindrops of our love for someone so precious. Just as God gives the land rain to refresh and grow, so do our tears refresh our spirits.

You can really feel the love all around your family. It is truly a gift to your parents to be so loved. I’m sure they were wonderful and giving people. I wish I had the honor of meeting them.
