Hurricane Season
Since today is throw back Thursday I thought I would share some blogs I’ve written previously. Since the hurricane season is here what better topic than to share some posts about them. We live in South Carolina and the hurricane season is from June 1st through November 1st.
We have gone through many hurricanes since 1994 with some minor, some major but all scary. These are pictures from Hurricane Matthew in October 2016 before it even hit land in South Carolina. http://themarthareview.com/before-hurricane-matthew-hit-south-carolina/
I wrote a blog about hurricane preparedness back in 2016 and thought now would be a good time to re-share it. http://themarthareview.com/hurricane-preparedness-kit/ It’s a good idea to always have a Preparedness kit ready even if you don’t live in a hurricane area. We never know when an emergency may arise.
About the only good thing a hurricane leaves are sea shells on the beach! These are a few we collected after Hurricane Dorian visited Myrtle Beach in 2019. The shells were pretty but the sand etches that were made from the ocean waves were beautiful!
Hopefully this hurricane season will spare everyone in the path any major damage but make sure you have a hurricane preparedness kit ready just to be on the safe side!
It is good to remember these tips. We live outside of Houston so we are dealing with this regularly. We evacuated once (Rita 2005) and hid in the house (Ike, Harvey). I feel like I missed one…
Any natural disaster is scary Dominique but the good thing about hurricanes we get plenty of advanced warning…that is if it goes on the projected path. Even small category ones, I don’t like!
Yes I pray too that people are saved from any major trouble during hurricane season.Checking out the kit you mentioned.
Thanks for visiting Amrita, we have our kit ready year round just in case it’s needed for any time of emergency.
I remember when I lived on the water as a kid- and the hurricanes would arrive… Scary.
Hurricanes or even tropical storms are scary Roy and I don’t like any of them, especially when they make landfall at night.
Several Hurricanes have hit where I live, and I live in Pennsylvania!!
It seems like hurricanes are traveling farther up the coast and devastating areas way north of where they use to turn out to sea. Very scary, hope you stay safe this season Kate.
Hi Martha, Hurricanes do look scary! Thankfully, I have never been in one, but my friends in Florida have been in a few the last ten years just like you. Your hurricane preparedness plan could work for any natural disaster, we have lots of fires and earthquakes here on the West Coast. The clean up after any disaster is difficult, but I like how you found the beauty with the lovely seashells left behind. Thank you for sharing. Sending lots of love and gratitude. Jaime
I think a fire is the most frightening Jaime. With both fires and earthquakes there is no advanced warning, at least with a hurricane we usually have a week to prepare.
Stay safe this hurricane season. 🙂
Hurricanes are scary and we have one in the Atlantic ocean now Amanda.
