How to Never Work a Day in Your Life
Maybe the title for this post should have been something different, but it caught your eye, right? Work is just a normal part of living and unfortunately, most of us will never be completely work-free, but I don’t think that is a bad thing. If you are being true to yourself and really following your dreams – living a life that you truly love – you will FEEL like you are not working, and that is the goal.
How to never work a day in your life? Love what you do. Love who you are. Love where you’re going.
Let me give you a few tips to show you how it’s done because no matter what anyone else thinks, it IS possible to feel like you are never working a day in your life. Here are those tips to help you out:
Follow your passion and do not settle
If you are wondering how to never work a day in your life, then you probably are not doing what you love, and you are probably not passionate about your job. If this sounds familiar to you, absolutely do something to change that. Our lives are way too short to be unhappy in life. Maybe following your passion requires extra education, money, or time that you do not currently have. That’s okay – it might not happen overnight, but as long as you are working towards your goal of following your passion and you do not settle (even when the tough gets tougher!), you will make it through and you will end up LOVING what you do. When you get there, I promise you that it is more than worth all of the hard times that you struggled through.
Reconnect with your values
Maybe it’s important to you to provide for your family. Maybe it’s important to you to be kind and compassionate, or driven and tenacious, or present and engaged. These are all qualities that you can choose to bring to any job, on any given day. When we reconnect with our values – who and how we want to be – we can infuse our day with meaning, no matter what we are doing. But really, when you connect with your values, or learn to reconnect with them, you can find value in any moment. I think that it is what we’re really after when we encourage people to do what they love. And it’s freeing to know that meaning is up to you. You do not have to find the elusive dream job before you can find meaning in your work. No matter the contextual restrictions on your ability to choose a job you “love,” you can still decide who you want to be when you show up every day to do your job, regardless of what it is.
Slow down
A lot of us love what we do, but we are also trained to “go, go, go” and never stop. We all need rest, we all need to recharge, and we all deserve time to ourselves, without having to work. It’s hard to do this if you are always focused on improvement and racing out the door. Take a minute for yourself and actually slow down! Do some yoga, take a trip (computer-free!), and spend time with friends and family. If you need a huge change in your life, consider moving to a less stressful area in your state (or if you’re up for an adventure, try moving to a totally new state!). For example, if you want to move from NY to NJ, which could be a HUGE change of pace, allowing you to slow down quite a bit, Bluebell Relocation Services is your key to going through this huge change, without the stress. They are experienced movers in N Jersey, NY, PA, CT, and surrounding areas. They are rated among the best local moving companies and their experience in the industry has taught them that nothing is more important than customer satisfaction. They always work their hardest to ensure that you come away pleased following your move. With the help of a full-service moving and storage company, such as Bluebell, you will be in great shape when you take the plunge to slow down!
Keep a positive mindset
Maybe you already own your own business and you love the idea behind what you are doing. You love the work, you love your co-workers, and you love the benefits. However, your mind just isn’t there with you at times. Everyone has hard days, weeks, and months, and sometimes, it can be pretty challenging to pull yourself out of that. But, keeping a positive mindset is everything when it comes to feeling like you are not working. Positivity can make or break a day – and the days of the people around you, as well. If you are really struggling with your mindset, depression, anxiety, etc., you may want to consider talking with a counselor. I know it seems taboo, but it is amazing what talking with someone can do for your mental health, which will in turn help your overall health, wellness, and mindset!
If you can’t find your dream job, create it
This might be hard for some, but if you cannot find your dream job, create it for yourself! Start your own business, build up your career, and shoot for the stars. You don’t have to wait for someone else to take charge and hire you, before you start making things work for yourself. You can do anything, but you need to have the determination and will power to do so.
When you follow your heart and do what you love, it does not feel like work. I am still trying to get there, but it is finally happening.
The entire 50 plus years that we owned our decorating business it never seemed like work Brenda. We enjoyed it so much.
What great tips!
