Homemade Bird Treats
Today is Day 11 for the Cornerstone Content Blog Challenge plus it’s Friday Story Time by Lia. The topic for today is content that changes a long-held belief. This is another topic that we might be grasping at straws for but we love keeping our feathered friends supplied with bird food and treats. It’s a long-held belief that people run to the store and grab a bag of food when they run low but Lia made her own homemade bird treats the other day. Here is her story!
Hi, I’m Lia stopping by to let you all know it’s time for my Friday Story Time again! I’m going to show you how I made my homemade bird treats instead of buying them. I love doing crafts and projects and this is just one that is fun and feeds the birds too.
First I collected some pinecones and a few oyster shells and mama got me some green wire branches to use as hangers when finished. I grabbed a jar of peanut butter and a box of rice krispies and we headed outdoors to our work table.
I spread some peanut butter on the pinecones and on the inside of the shells. That was a sticky project but fun! Next I rolled them in rice krispies! Did you notice I’m still in my jammies? I love going outside early morning.
Look at my finished bird treat that I’m eyeing up! It was fun making them instead of going to the store and buying them like most people think that’s how it’s done.
Just when I thought I was finished making treats, mommy came up with the idea of rolling an ice cream cone in the peanut butter and rice krispies. What a neat idea, the birds can now have an ice cream cone treat!!
After I finished making my homemade bird treats, I hung them on the tree and waited for the birds to see them. As for the tree, that will be another story in a few days! I hope you enjoyed my bird treats and now if you want to make some you’ll know how!
If you want to see another bird feeder I made last spring, check it out here. It’s made from a plastic cup! http://themarthareview.com/i-made-a-bird-feeder/
What fun, Lia! I need to try the pinecone feeders since I have a lot of extra ones. I hope you get photos of the birds enjoying your treats!
Lia says she’s hoping to get lots of pictures of the birds Angela, we love watching them in the yard. Would love to see pictures of yours if you make some.
That’s very creative and I’m sure the birds loved it! Lia looks quite serious as she works away on this project.
When Lia does a project she is so into it, making sure everything is as perfect as it can be Virginia!
Wow, Lia I love your shell and pine cone idea. I love watching the birds, too. I will have to try that one.
Lia says thank you Brenda! She loved making her bird treats.
Interesting concepts…
We use what’s in the cupboard Roy,the birds enjoyed their treats.
What a neat project! I wasn’t sure what people used to feed birds, so it’s good to find out you can make your own. As usual, Lia looks adorable and seems to know exactly what she’s doing.
You can roll them in oatmeal too Jeanine. We use whatever is in the cupboard!
Lia, you’re a very smart girl to challenge the belief that we should all use store-bought stuff! Often, the Stuff we make is more wonderful than what’s available in the stores. I’m proud and delighted that you’ve made these bird snacks!
Lia says thank you Kebba. She loves making things and thinking outside the box!
Lia, thank you for the tips! It looks like fun, and I want to make homemade bird treats, too!!!
Lia says they are so much fun to make and hopes your birds love them Alice! Thanks for visiting.
This is very creative, and Lia looks cute doing her things, as always 🙂
Thanks Jojo, Lia loves doing creative projects and is so proud when she completes them.
What a cute idea. One of my household chores is to feed the birds everyday. Grandpa and I are looking for a new bird feeder because one of ours broke during hurricane Sally.
I hope you find the perfect bird feeder for your yard Amanda! Sorry Sally broke yours.
