Homeless
Homeless
My grandson from Lafayette, Indiana is at it again along with his sweetheart! He has taken it upon himself to purchase and/or get donations of blankets, gloves, jackets and other warm items for the homeless in the Lafayette area. Once again Zachary ceases to amaze me with his caring and considerate ways. The below messages are what he is posting on his Facebook and others are sharing to help him get the word out. I love when I read about people helping others, they are all making a difference to someone.
From Zachary: What do my local people think is needed most in Lafayette this winter? My goal is to hand out as much as possible but I don’t want to get a bunch of things people won’t need. I know we have some homeless here but it’s not too crowded so one goal is to get blankets, large winter clothes, hand warmers, etc, for those who don’t have them. But what else is a major necessity? I really want to make a difference this year for once so any suggestions are appreciated and will be taken with great consideration. If no one has any ideas the Misses and I will do our best to help as many as we can this winter. Much Love ❤️🙏🏼
⚠️⚠️PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT⚠️⚠️
Is anyone willing to take inventory of things they DO NOT NEED? I am willing to take all CLEAN/ NON DESTROYED items not needed from anyone’s hands. I’m purchasing about 100 of everything including gloves, hats, hand warmers and blankets, but I definitely think much more will be needed. You don’t have to do the hard part of handing stuff out in the cold, just be generous enough to look through what you never use/ don’t need and help out someone who actually may be struggling this winter. Any help is more than appreciated, thank you to those who actually took time to simply read this, and much love to those who actually take action to make a small difference in a city we all live in ❤️ Otherwise, remain thankful
Kudos to your grandson! It’s folks like him- and his actions- that help make this world just a little bit better1
Thanks Roy, I am just a little bit proud of him!
Great job Zachary, you have figured out how to make your community better for everyone through cooperation and getting more people involved in taking ownership of the community as if it is their own, which it is.
I am so proud of Zachary, he’s always looking to help others but this time he’s taking on his entire community. I hope others see his good deed and get involved. Thanks for visiting.
Lovely to see your grandson reaching out and helping his community 🙂
He is definitely trying to help his community and I hope others will join in with him.
The biggest unmet need for (mentally competent) homeless people, apart from, well, homes and paychecks, tends to be clean underwear and toiletries. Without regular access to bathrooms it’s extremely hard to be clean, or even tolerable for others to sit beside on a bus, much less fresh enough to feel confident and make a good impression on a job interview. Consider getting to know these people well enough to share your bathroom if they do happen to get a job interview.
For the classic chronically homeless type, nothing short of incarceration will help much–that demographic is dying out anyway.
Also, for those who want to wander around handing out blankets…please bear in mind that not everyone carrying a lot of shopping bags down the street is homeless. Some of us, even if our hair is grey, are simply too Green and/or health-conscious to drive to the store! Walking raises our metabolic rate so we may actually be carrying, but don’t want or need to be wearing, as many layers as you might imagine–I’ve had people ask me if I needed a coat when I was actually working up a good healthy sweat in a heavy cotton sweatshirt. Carrying moderate loads for moderate distances helps to maintain bone density, so please don’t be part of the peer pressure that makes so many shy seniors cower indoors and “let that old rocking chair get them.”
I’ll mention the underwear and toiletries to my grandson Priscilla. There is a location where the homeless tends to stay and he will be going to that location, not just wandering the streets. Thanks for stopping by.
hats off to your grandson.. my daughter and my son are both currently working on service projects for the homeless as well as part of their scouting journeys and i am hoping it will become a part of their lives as they grow up
my daughter is working on collecting toiletries for a women’s shelter
That is wonderful about your daughter and son! Just think if more young people would step up and help others, the world might get back to where it use to be! Thanks for stopping by Vidya!
