Hit The Road

Hit The Road

As we hit the road on our way to Ohio, I snapped a few interesting photos.  At the time, I wasn’t sure what I was capturing, but I love taking unique photographs.

As hubby and I were traveling through North Carolina early Saturday morning, we saw this mountain that was so different. We were quite a distance away and in a moving vehicle so I wasn’t able to get a super clear photo but I liked what I was seeing.

As we got closer, I was able to get a better photograph and also saw a sign pointing to Pilot Mountain.  So after searching online, I found more information about this beautiful place. Pilot Mountain is over 2400 feet above sea level while “The Knob” which has high and colorful bare rock walls with a rounded top covered by vegetation, reaches approximately 1,400 feet above the surrounding terrain.

If you are ever  in this area of North Carolina,  PILOT MOUNTAIN STATE PARK is definitely a place to add to your stops.

A few hours later while continuing our travels, I saw a beautiful building with a gold dome.  It was much higher than all the other buildings and definitely stood out, being so majestic.

Hubby and I both thought it might be the capital building of West Virginia so I checked with a friend who lives in that state to confirm in fact it was.  The state capital is located in Charleston, West Virginia, off I-77 and since I get bored when traveling, I searched online for more information.   Again, if in the area, you might want to learn more about the WEST VIRGINIA STATE CAPITAL

Do you take unknown photographs when traveling and then research to see what they are? I think it’s interesting to not only take the photos, but to learn more about what they are.

  1. Charly West is but a pale imitation of the capitol dome in Atlanta.
    But, Pilot Mountain was cool.

  2. I used to take a lot of pictures all the time, but I realised that when I saw them on my computer, or printed, they looking nothing like what I remembered. So I stopped. Maybe I should start again.

I take pictures then forget where they were from Nick! It passed time on our drive by researching both of these photos. Thanks for stopping by Nick.

Yes! Especially when they’re years old and I’m trying to scrapbook them!

  5. I totally take pictures of random things on road trips! I like the snap that you got of the capital building. It’s always neat to find unique architecture on trips.

The picture of the capital was a bit tricky to shoot Hannah. While hubby was driving, I was trying to snap the picture without getting vehicles or the bug splaps from the window. LoL. Thanks for visiting!

I have been known to take photos and research them later…usually I later wish I had known in advance so I could have stopped by. 🙂

That would be a good thing if we knew ahead of time but now I have a reason to go back to Pilot Mountain area. Thanks for visiting Cindy.
