Healthy Eating Update
In July 2018 I was diagnosed with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and instead of going on prescription medications I did some research and changed my diet with foods to avoid plus foods that would regain a healthy liver. This is a blog I wrote when I was first diagnosed where I have listed of foods to avoid and healthy foods to eat. http://themarthareview.com/fatty-liver-disease/
Within a few months of healthy eating my stomach pain and bloating was almost non-existing. I attributed some of the pain and food taking so long to get into my stomach from a faulty valve that wasn’t opening and closing properly. http://themarthareview.com/1-1-2-years-later/ In only 18 months I felt so much healthier. Instead of having brownies or cake for breakfast I switched to lots of fruit and added granola, yogurt and oatmeal to my breakfast menu. These pictures are just a few of my creations.
But as the saying goes all good things must come to an end. I sorta slipped off the band wagon since Lia has been doing so much baking, sugar is one thing that I was able to take out of my diet and I didn’t even miss it. But look at the sugar now! I need to get back to were I was before on my sugar intake. I did find Monkfruit is a natural sweetener and tasted just like sugar and almost too sweet. I cut down the amount when using this in place of sugar.
My stomach valve needs a tune-up and I have to get back on track with my healthy eating. Guess it’s time to look for sugar-free desserts for Lia to make! Yes this is a yummy organic almond joy candy bar but it’s healthy! Here is my recipe for them . http://themarthareview.com/organic-almond-joy-bars/
So for my healthy eating update, my goal is to get back and stay on track, start preparing more healthy foods and eat more fruits and vegetables. I’m always looking for a challenge so this will be my next challenge, get back to my healthy eating plan where I was when I posted my 18 month update in January 2020. Stay tuned for my January 2021 update!
Your food and plating look amazing! I gotta try the organic almond joy bars one of these days, thanks for sharing the recipe 🙂
Thanks Pam, I enjoyed my healthy eating plan and looking forward to getting back on track. Salmon is one of my favorite meals!
Hi Martha, I think that I’m going to do that challenge with you. Healthy eating and sugar free baking sound like great ideas. I haven’t found recipes that are totally sugar free yet, but I have found some that are free of added sugars. I’m looking forward to it! A challenge is always more fun when it is shared!
That’s great Alice! I do like having someone that I can share ideas and help keep me on track! I’ll be working on some delicious but healthy recipes that Lia can try for us! Some sugar is okay but it’s the added sugar that puts things way over the top. We’ll do this together and beat it!
Lia’s treats are too tempting, huh? LOL I think she will do well with the adjustments — she is already good in the kitchen! Good luck with the dietary adjustments!
LOL Lia and I will have to look for some healthy alternatives to her chocolate cake and donuts Dominique! I’m looking forward to getting back on my healthy eating track!
I trust you will get back to your diet without a problem. The photos you posted are gorgeous! Made me hungry. 🙂
I love a challenge of any kind Julie and this will be great for another challenge.
We all stray sometimes. The trick is to keep the stray under control.
I blame it on Lia’s treats Roy! LOL She’s looking for healthy treats to bake for us now! I can win this challenge!
Sugar does take its toll.I think Martha, you willie back on track soon
Thanks Amrita, if I turn this into a challenge, I will get back on track. I love a challenge and Alice is joining me virtually!
I know this struggle well, Martha! Especially with children and yummy food around. Good for you, Martha, for getting right back to it!
Yes, I’ll blame Lia LOL! I started last night with salmon and brown rice, delicious. I’m looking forward to my new challenge and Alice is joining in with me virtually!
I will be watching you. I know you will be successful. One thing to remember, the sweet taste of Monk fruit is great for making desserts but your body really only knows it is getting sweets and can’t really tell the difference between Artifical sugars and actual cane sugar. That could lead to cravings so limit the number of desserts you have on hand to avoid eating a second desert thinking it is healthier than one made of sugar. They all get treated the same once they are in our body. I think the best desserts are the ftuit with yougurt or fruit with cottage cheese because I fight the same fight of teating and “extra” goodie when they are near by.
Thanks for watching over me Chef William! I too will be checking out your recipes for some more healthy options. I did notice that Monk Fruit is actually sweeter than sugar, almost too sweet for me! I’ll be bring on lots of fruits and vegetables again and yes I love yogurt and cottage cheese! I’m going to win this challenge!
Martha, I am right there with you. I to have stomach issues. I am trying to weed out the bad foods, one day at a time. If I fall off the wagon, the next day, I am back on the wagon trying harder.
You sound like me Debra, keep trying harder when we fall off the wagon. I’m excited to get back on track with my healthy eating because it is not only healthy but I feel so much better.
Keep going. I’m so proud of you.
Thanks, I going one meal at a time Amanda!
