Happy 80th Anniversary
Happy 80th Anniversary in heaven mom and dad! I have so many wonderful memories that live in my heart and miss you both so much but know you are back in each other’s arms.
My mom and dad were married on October 16, 1943. Dad was home on leave from the Army so as soon as they were married, he had to take off to Germany. Thankfully he made it home safely and they had three children, my older sister Anne, I’m in the middle and then the baby sister Nancy. We had a great family life with lots of love.
Mom and dad celebrated their 50th anniversary in 1993 with the renewal of their vows. By now mom had been suffering from Alzheimer’s but the minister was so patient with her by helping mom with the words.
This is the 50th anniversary plate that they received at their celebration and I was so happy to have my sister re-gift it to Rich and I on our 50th anniversary in 2017.
Mom and dad celebrated 56 years together before mom passed away on January 15, 2000. Dad was so heartbroken to lose mom, they were always together. Dad passed away on January 20, 2006 and since then they have been together once again.
A cherished kiss from my dad to my mom on her birthday.
Today would be their 80th anniversary and I know they are up in heaven dancing to the anniversary waltz. I love and miss you both so much but know you are happy to be together forever. I see so many signs from both my mom and dad and always go out to Mom’s Memory garden to talk with them until we meet again. HAPPY 80th ANNIVERSARY MOM AND DAD! LOVE YOU FOREVER!
Aww, what a lovely post! Happy anniversary to your parents 💖 It must have been so hard for them to say goodbye shortly after getting married. Where in Germany was your Dad stationed?
Do you think “longevity in marriage” runs in your family?
IT was so hard for my dad, they were always together for over 50 years. I’m not sure where is was in Germany, I’ll have to check on that. Yes longevity runs in our family, my grandparents on both my mom and dad’s side survived over 50 years and my older sister is a year behind Rich and I with 53 years. Unfortunately her hubby passed away last year.
What a lovely post, Martha. Happy Anniversary to your parents in heaven!
Thanks Joanna!
Beautiful Memory garden. I love the roses.
Oak is the traditional gift for an 80th anniversary because it is a symbol of strength, durability, and longevity – do you think they exchanged gits of oak?
Maybe they are up in heaven sitting under a big oak tree Paul! There is a beautiful Angel Oak Tree on John’s Island in SC that is estimated to be 300-400 years old. It’s about 65 feet high with an over 25 foot circumference. It was one of my parents favorite places to visit.
What a sweet post. 🙂
I miss my mom and dad so much Amanda but I know they are happy being in their arms again.
