Guess What Day It Is!!
Guess what day it is!!! No it’s not hump day, it’s my two week update on my vegetable garden. It’s also the day before the end of the April Ultimate Blog Challenge, only one more day after this blog! It’s been three weeks since we planted our vegetable garden, two weeks since I wrote an update so I wanted to show you how it’s grown in the past two weeks. This is the blog I wrote two weeks ago, check the difference in sizes of the plants!

The plants are growing great and so far the bunnies and birds are staying away from them. As long as the temperature doesn’t get too hot, the plants should be good to grow!
I’m like a little kid when I see blossoms on our vegetables and we have the beginnings of them on the squash and peppers! Haven’t seen any on the eggplant yet but they usually take a big longer to bloom.
We also have two tiny tomatoes plus more blossoms so I’m hoping we will get ripe tomatoes this year. That’s about the only vegetable that doesn’t do good but we’re trying again.
A friend sent me some Okra seeds (I’ve never tried them before) and we just planted the seeds last week. They are just starting to pop out of the ground so I’m patiently waiting to see if they will grow. Okay they are teeny tiny but with tender loving care, they will make it!
The cream of the crop is our leaf lettuce. The first picture was taken the day we planted it, April 8th, the middle was taken April 15th and the last one is today. Three weeks is all it took to grow to eating size!
I picked a bowl full today and made my hubby a delicious fresh salad for dinner! It had the perfect taste and wasn’t bitter. Nothing like picking lettuce, bringing it in and serving it immediately for dinner.
Our garden isn’t large but it usually yields a good amount of squash, peppers, eggplant and cucumbers. By the July blog challenge, I’ll update you on the progress and see how much I have frozen.
Do you plant a garden and if so is the weather ready for you to get it going? I love this time of year, let the planting and blossoming begin!
That’s fantastic, Martha!! They are growing so nicely! That salad looked tasty and I don’t even like salad, LOL.
I love having our little vegetable garden Jeanine, I get so excited when they start budding out! Rich loves a salad, usually it’s just a bowl of lettuce and there’s nothing better than fresh picked from the garden! Thanks for visiting, I’ll fry up some eggplant for you!
What a beautiful garden! Here in Western New York, it is too soon to plant vegetables. The likelihood of a hard frost is still very high. Generally, the recommendation here (USDA zone 6a) is to plant during the Memorial Day weekend. I don’t expect to see any ripe tomatoes until some time in July, however.
I remember when I was younger and in upstate NY, Memorial Day weekend was when I helped my dad plant our garden. It was huge and my grandmother froze or canned enough food to last all winter for our family of seven! I love fresh vegetables and our garden will be nearing the end when the northern gardens are started.
Wonderful day great meal
There will be many more meals like that Rich! Looking forward to the summer squash and peppers!
