Great Poetry Reading Day
GREAT POETRY READING DAY
I just found out April is National Poetry Month and it was inaugurated by the Academy of American Poets in 1996. But today, April 28th is Great Poetry Reading Day. So if you enjoy reading or writing poems, this is your month and if you write great poems, today is your day! My mom wrote poetry when she was young and for the past few years, I have come up with a few of my own. Now my poems are no way great poetry but they come to my mind mostly when I see something or someone. A word or two will pop in my head and I turn them into a short poem. Someday I’d love to put a book together with some of my mom’s poems along with some of mine.
One of the poems I wrote is I Close My Eyes Have you ever closed your eyes to see, hear, taste, or feel?
I wrote this one about our granddaughter, she was Papa’s shadow and would follow him everywhere. Shadow Forever
I think my favorite is the poem I wrote when my mom passed away.
These are just a few of my poems and while I will never be a great poet, I will cherish the memories that are in my poems. Do you ever get words in your head and you turn them into poems? I would love to read some of yours!
Martha, I knew this was National Poetry Month.. just did not get around to writing anything resembling poetry this month at all.. though my goal for the year was at least one a week (upto 6 each month, actually!)…
Loved the poem ‘The Eyes say it All’ – really beautiful..
For some reason I can’t set a goal for poetry, they only come to me when I think of a few words after seeing something LadyInRead. It’s been awhile since my poetic brain has written one. Thanks for reading and as soon as I saw my granddaughter’s eyes, that poem was easy to come up with.
