Great Deals on Meats
Great Deals on Meat
I am one that can’t seem to purchase anything at full price, I always look for coupons before shopping and along with the items on sale, I save quite a bit on groceries. But the one thing that is usually lacking for coupons is meat. I can find hot dogs, bacon, and frozen chicken but that’s about it. So when I go grocery shopping I look for great deals on meat that I can get without coupons.
Today I went to Bi-Lo and as soon as I went to the meat department, my eyes scoped for the red stickers that said REDUCED. I picked up three packages and all were still good on the dates. That’s the first thing I look for but I have never seen reduced meat with expired dates. The first package I saw was Top Round Steak with two good sized pieces in the package for $3.29. But wait, there was another coupon for $1.50 off so it cost $1.79! I will cook this up with peppers and onions and have a tasty inexpensive meal for hubby and me. I also got a package of Top Round Steak value pack for $8.23 less $4.00 off with the reduced coupon, total price paid was $4.23! This package had enough steak for two meals and I will probably cut it in strips for stir fry with vegetables. The last package I saw with a reduced label was Boneless Stew Beef for $9.31 plus $5.00 off coupon, bringing this yummy meal down to $4.31. This package of stew beef will make a nice stew or shish kabobs, enough to last for two meals for us. The regular price for all this beef would have been $29.83 and after the price with the Bi-Lo bonus card, brought the total down to $20.87. But don’t forget, I had the three reduced stickers that were on the packages that totaled $10.50, bringing the bottom line out of pocket spent $10.37! All this meat will make five delicious meals for hubby and me for a little over $2.00 per meal.
By adding potatoes or rice and vegetables, I’ll guess on the high side and say that would cost $1.50 per meal. All these fresh vegetables cost $7.78 after $2.00 off from store coupons. By adding the fruit and a few other items, my total was over $30.00 so I used my $5.00 off store coupon also.
So for five nutritious meals for two people consisting of meat, potatoes or rice and vegetables it costs $3.50. For $1.75 each, you can’t even get fast food for that price!
I love learning how peopel save when they buy groceries. I am one who does not like to spend if i can’t save money doing it. I like to stretch my buck as far as I can.
You and me both Sandy, it’s very rare if I pay full price for something, there are always sales and coupons to help keep the cost down. Keep stretching that buck!
I love getting meat on special too, Martha. We look for the 30% off stickers, buy family packs and take advantage of reduced prices for frozen vs fresh meat.
My favourite special is a recurring one on huge pieces of pork loin that are usually $20-$30, depending on the size. I can buy these at Overwaitea about every 6-8 weeks, and one piece of pork makes up to five nice sized roasts. We slice those up into boneless chops, cut them into smaller pieces for stir fry, and do all kinds of fun grilling and crock pot recipes with the rest.
Wow Kyla, that’s a great deal on pork loin! We got pork often but never had pork stir fry, I’ll have to try that, must be very juicy adding peppers and onions. I always look for family packs too, but difference in price from smaller put out. The way prices keep going up, I’m always looking for any savings I can get and sounds like you do too. Thanks for visiting!
We always do the marked down meat thing too, so it was nice to see how you did that. I’ve never thought about using round steak for a stir-fry. I’ll have to try that. I have never cooked potatoes over the grill on skewers either. We’ve only done them in foil packets.
I love looking for deals like that! meat and veggies are the best!
I am so addicted to looking for great prices on meats, which are sometimes hard to find, and veggies! See I do eat things besides chocolate Alexandra! 🙂
