Going Down Memory Lane

Going Down Memory Lane

I started to de-clutter and re-organize the house, working on the family room the other day.  I am usually one to save everything “just in case”,  I may need it at a later time.   Well, my “just in case” has ended and I started tossing things out!   Hubby and I reorganized the furniture to make the room more functional and I cleaned my family room “couch office”.  Everything is finally finding a place, whether it be trash, give away to someone else to hoard or just organize it. Once I get started on a major re-organization project, I can keep going until it’s complete.  That is unless I happen to find something that will have me going down memory lane.  That’s what happened the other day.  But, on a good note, I did continue to finish both going down memory land and the re-organizing!

As I was organizing some of my thimbles that were sitting on the shelf, the very first ones I picked up where two very special thimbles that my oldest grandson brought me from his world travels. He traveled to so many countries, and with my “older” brain, I don’t remember where they came from but I want to say Spain and I received them Christmas 2014.

One thimble is a beautiful 2″ high cloisonné thimble painted in gorgeous shades of blues and green with high lights of gold leaf.  It’s enameled in many layers, so not exactly painted, and the tiny gold filament around the designs are laid-in sort of like how stained glass is made. It’s very complex and time-consuming, and very beautiful.

The other has a gold banding with a silver top with the Infant of Prague etched on it. Such a delicate thimble with so much detail on the etching. Both are so very beautiful and it set me back on my organizing for a bit while I stopped to admire both of the thimbles and my grandson.

So back to cleaning, I thought I could get things completed, only to go through some papers and cards in the desk drawer, and yes, it happened again. I got derailed when I found a Christmas card hubby and I received from the same grandson. I didn’t date it, but it was signed “Chuckie” so I’m thinking it was maybe when he started into his modeling career.  Hubby and I were and still are about the only ones that still see him as our “little Chuckie”, not “CJ” as he goes by now that he is a grown up! LOL   As I opened the card again, I re-read it and how it brought a smile to my insides and out.

Now if that wasn’t enough to pull on my heart-strings, after going deeper through the pile, there was yet another card from him!  This was a birthday card that he sent me, signed by “CJ” and I remember this well when he sent it a few years back.   I have many wonderful cards from him but for some reason these two jumped out from the pile right in my hands to read again.

When a grandson is almost 30 years old, owns his own business(es), travels, models, and has a super busy life with his gorgeous wife but still continues to text, Facebook message or call out of the blue like he has done since he was a little guy, it shows what a very special person he is.   I love CJ (little Chuckie) so much for all he is, all he does and his huge heart full of love.  I so enjoyed taking time out from my organizing to get going down memory lane once again.

I’m so glad this brought back memories of your mom and son! I like when I read a blog and can relate to it in some way. Thanks for stopping by and reading yet again Brenda!

  2. Hmm. You described my problem when I start decluttering. I end up reminiscing and spending hours on what I find. It’s why I have begun putting stickers on boxes and shelves that I use. After 6 months, those sans stickers will be removed- by someone I hire, so I won’t be tempted to continue my perusals.

I think most people have this same ‘problem” to some extent Roy but I just get way off track on what I’m suppose to be doing. But I love the memories that come out of what I find. Good idea with the stickers! Thanks for stopping by.

Hope you enjoyed it Sandy. I find that when I do my memory lane posts, it sometimes sparks a memory for someone else and that makes me feel good knowing I helped bring memories to others. Thanks for stopping by!
