Getting More Traffic
Getting More Traffic
The past few days has been quite a learning experience getting my blog back up and running. While it was a head ache and nerve racking at the time, I did learn a few new things. The exciting thing I learned was getting more traffic to my site. There are a few simple ways to achieve this, even if you are a beginner.
The first thing is to use KEYWORDS. These are used to help people find your blog so choose your main word that will drive traffic to your blog. I use my blog title as my keyword, add it to the first paragraph of my blog post plus it’s also a good idea to add them in the blog itself.
Another great help is the META DESCRIPTION. This is a short explanation or “snippet” of your blog post. You will want to keep it short but make it interesting so your readers will want to learn more from the blog. The Meta Description will also show up on your social sites that you share your blog to.
Adding TAGS is another way for readers to find your blog. Tags are like the index of a book, add words that people might do a search on when looking for the information on your blog. If you were writing a blog about TRAVELING, you could use tags that you are mentioning in your blog, such as MOUNTAINS, OCEAN, ACCOMMODATIONS, SITE SEEING, PLACES TO VISIT. If writing about DIFFERENT TYPES OF TEA, you can use GREEN TEA, HERBAL TEA, BENEFITS OF TEA and make sure you have used this same words in your blog.
One more thing that helps to get more interest for your readers is to add a FEATURE IMAGE. This is a photo that you add to your blog post and will show up on your blog title page. When people see an exciting photo, it may just spark their interest just by seeing the photo. On the two examples, the top photo shows the item I’m blogging about and makes people want to see more. The bottom photo shows another post I wrote about delicious potatoes but some people might pass it by because it doesn’t show the delicious finished dish.
I’ve only had my blog since December 2014 and I have a lot to learn but I love learning and most of my learning is learning by doing. These ideas and hints are what I have learned and while I’m sure there are many sites that have many more great explanations, I tend to try to keep it easy to understand. So next time you write your blog, check out your Keywords, Meta Description and Tags. You may just see you are getting more traffic by doing this.
Great tips! Feature images really make a post stand out — just make sure the images are 1) large enough to be picked up by Facebook and 2) original or paid-for royalty-free from places like Dreamstime, StockFreeImages, etc. and that you follow all the attribution rules.
Thanks Tammy! Since I always use my own photos, I forgot to mention about using paid-for royalty-free photos, great added tip! I have been slack about adding a feature image since I’m so busy, but need to get back into the habit of doing this. It sure makes a more interesting beginning. Thanks for stopping by!
Good advice, I don’t think I’ve used the meta description feature, I’m going to see if I can figure that out.
I have Word Press and the meta description tab is at the bottom of the edit page. Hope it helps and thanks for stopping by VJ!
Thank-you for the tips.
Your welcome Kim, hope they come in handy for you.
Good traffic tips to keep in mind!
Thanks, hope they can help a few bloggers. Thanks for stopping by Savvy Age.
Since I can’t afford a domain and hosting, I have always liked writing on blogspot, because it offers me the most flexability as far as how I want my blog to look (I’m a sidebar junkie) . I’m sad that I doesn’t let me do the things that wordpress does where it comes to attracting readers.
The “meta” description when I share my blog is what I added in my comment box trying to get people to comment. And as far as a “featured” image goes, it randomly grabs images from the post or even one from the sidebars I love so much.
That works Nona. I actually started on Blogspot a long time ago for freebie sites. I think I still have it, I’ll have to check it out. The nice thing about having my own domain name, I can monetize on my blog (not that I’ve done a lot but I get enough to pay for the hosting). Thanks for stopping by.
Great tips! Thanks for sharing…I need to get better at implementing a lot of these. Baby steps… 😉
I have been taking baby steps since I started in December 2014. It’s like the kid’s game I use to play, Simon Says. Simon says, take one baby step. Simon says, take two baby steps. Take a giant step. Nope, Simon didn’t say that ! LOL Thanks for stopping by.
Love to learn from other people’s experiences. Your post sure is inspiring and makes me be more diligent with all these stuff. Good thing that the Yoast SEO plugin has all these features. After writing your post, you just have to make sure to scroll to the bottom and satisfy all its requirements.
Thanks!
Thanks Maria, I too love to learn from others. It’s great the so many share helpful information. I just signed up to your blog and your earning post was very interesting and helpful. I need to get the autorespond email set up, I haven’t figured that out yet. Thanks for stopping by.
Thanks for sharing these tips. I do most of these things already, except for the meta tag, so I’ll look into that. I would like to share that use StumbleUpon can REALLY increase your traffic! I had no idea it was so popular or effective, but my highest number of views ever occurred one day last month, primarily from Stumble, with over 1100 views!
WOW, that’s super about StumbleUpon K.Lee! I’ve heard it’s a great sharing site, I’ll have to try to add the button to my share list. Thanks for visiting and keep up the great work on your blog.
Great and helpful tips. Thank-you Martha.
Hope some of them help you Brenda. I’m looking into more ways to grow my blog and share my tips. Thanks for visiting!
you’ve done a great job getting traffic in the time you’ve had a blog, and j always love your pictures. won’t be long before you need an even bigger server!
Thanks Alexandra! All my pictures are my own, I have so many, I can always find something that works instead of going to an online photo site. You need to be my guest writer soon!
