Frying Pan Stew
We’re already on week two of the Ultimate Blog Challenge! My first week I wrote about Challenges and for this week, I’ll be in the kitchen! I like to share me quick and easy meals that are also healthy. I will also share some others tips for in the kitchen.
Last week I had a package of stew beef, approximately 1 1/2 pounds which cost $5.56. I usually flash fry the beef with peppers and onions and serve with baked potatoes but I wanted something different. We had a busy day and I didn’t have time to make something that was time consuming so I came up with my frying pan stew that took about half an hour to prepare and cook!
I started with my stew beef and cut it into smaller pieces, cut up peppers (from our garden last year), onions and carrots and diced four red skinned potatoes, skin and all!
First I added some avocado oil to a deep sided frying pan and cooked the vegetables for about 5 minutes then I added the beef until it was browned.
Next I tossed in the cut up potatoes to the vegetables and meat. Before I cut my potatoes I microwaved them 3 minutes so they would be partially cooked. After everything was together in the frying pan I mixed two packages of beef gravy mix with two cups of water. I poured that over the ingredients and let it simmer for 30 minutes, stirring often.
In about 30 minutes my frying pan stew was ready to eat and was it delicious! This made four servings so after dinner we had a serving leftover. I had it the next day while Rich had a huge salad! I don’t know how much the vegetables and potatoes cost, but I’m sure it was less than $5.00 so the four serving came to a total of about $10.00. Not a bad meal for $2.50!
We’re all so busy these days, a quick take on a recipe that usually cooks for hours is a great idea!!
That’s my thought exactly Kimberly. I love a crockpot stew for the smell throughout the kitchen all day but at times my frying pan stew is great.
Prices here on Long Island are high- so I am not sure that your prices and ours would end up being the same! No not bad for 2.50 though, however, most people only eat 3X a day- when technically we should all be eating smaller meals 5-6 times a day…2-3 snacks ( a bag of veggies(a cup) or a small handful of nuts and seeds, etc…For those of us who work out for 2-3 hours a day minimum we should actually concentrate on that protein, clean carbs and fruits and veggies…not to mention hydrating. (OR LISTEN TO LIA, LOL!)
I could n ver ear 5-6 meals a day Pam! LOL But I donate slower and smaller meals since I’ve been on my healthy eating plan.
Greetings Martha, I admire your creative cooking skills. I would have never thought to make stew in a pan but you really made it work and it looks delicious. I may just have to try your fun recipe. Thank you for sharing. Sending love to you and Lia.
Hope you try it and enjoy the stew Jaime. It’s quick and easy.
You’re making me hungry just by looking at this stew. Thank you for sharing the recipe for it.
It’s delicious for sure Danwil.
That stew looks absolutely delicious! You make it look so easy, Martha. I appreciate that about your recipes.
It is so quick and easy Jeanine. You know me, gotta be healthy but quick and easy to prepare.
You made all this in only half an hour? You rock!
I don’t think I have ever seen, much less had red skinned potatoes. Do they taste differently?

Yes, I’m the queen of quick meals Tamara. LOL The skin on a red potato is thin soni leave it on when cooking then. Haven’t noticed a difference in taste through.
You make cooking sound and look easy. The budgeting is definitely out of this world .Waiting for more kitchen wisdom
Thanks Dr. Amrita, I love finding quick and easy plus healthy meals. More to come!
What a great meal to make in just a half hour. I haven’t heard of avocado oil, I’ll have to try some.
I like making quick meals Julie, they are quick and delicious. Avocado oil has a lower burn point than vegetable oil, not as much spitting.
Martha, this frying pan stew sounds great! Every dish doesn’t have to be crock-potted all day to be good!
That’s right Kebba, sometimes a 20 minute meal tastes as good.
I love Stew and miss my dads who used to throw in everything including the kitchen sink. But David and Charlie will not eat it so I never get Stew. Although I might make a small pan using your recipe and freeze the leftovers for my lunch.
That’s a great idea Glenda, freeze it and you’ll have lunch ready!
That looks so good. I love potatoes.
It’s another quick and easy recipe Amanda.
