Fine Tuned the Garage

Back in October I wrote a blog about The Garage is Done. Well at the time I thought it was but it seems I’m never through organizing things! I had planned on looking for a new home from our 5′ x 12′ worktable we brought home from when we retired our interior decorating shop in 2018. But after rethinking about it, I decided I can’t let it go. Rich and my dad built this back in 1995 when we first moved to South Carolina and opened our retail shop. It’s a part of me and has so many memories plus it has lots of storage room underneath. So the table is staying and I’ll use it as a craft table.

I originally took everything stored in cardboard boxes and put them in the storage bins, it was so much neater stacked on the cabinets. But now with all the space under the table, I can store them there and the garage looks even better. (I still have some fine tuning to do like get rid of all the cardboard boxes I’ve been saving since I don’t need them anymore.)

Then I went one step farther! Let’s step back in the kitchen from when I was trying to figure out where to store my cookie sheets and cooling racks. A few years ago I came up with an idea so I made a prototype out of cardboard. I cut down a box to fit and attached it to the inside of the cupboard with velcro. It was perfect to store the cookie sheets and it didn’t take up much room. I had planned on making a permanent one from wood but that never happened. LOL However, after talking to one of my Facebook friends, she told me she stores hers in a skinny cabinet. Well, I just happen to have a skinny cabinet in the garage (I got all of the garage cabinets free on Market Place) so I removed the few bottles of cleaners and turned my skinny cabinet into the perfect spot for the cookie sheets. They are easy to get to when I bake as long as I remember where they are!
I fine tuned the garage once again and eventually I’ll have it totally to my liking but I’ve got rid of so many unneeded items and I’m happy with the results so far.
I have done so much de-cluttering and it’s much easier when I use the three box system – one for trash, one for give away and one for garage sale. I have a few more projects I’ll be posting soon!

The year has only just begun, and already you’re kicking butt, Martha! Congratulations on decluttering such a spacious room! I like the three box system, only to be honest the “throw away box” should be a a full-on dumpster in my case…
I’m plugging along Tamara, have another big surprise coming of with the guest room.
Wonderful progress on your garage, Martha!! Bravo on the purging, and you really have streamlined your storage! Hee hee, I think of the storage questions, ‘Where would I look for them? Will I remember I have it/ them?’ I often remind myself when I put it away – ‘this is where I keep ___!’
And what precious memories of your long table – it will be great for creating!
Oh my Nadya, my biggest challenge is to remember where the new spot is for everything! I have labeled the bins which is a big help. As for the table, yes it holds so many precious memories.
The garage looks great, and I wish I had a garage or an actual office.
Thanks Glenda, it seems like I’m always moving things around to utilize them for the best space.
