Finding Gift Boxes

If you missed yesterday’s Friday Story Time by Lia, she shared a blog about Christmas gifts she made. She made jewelry for family members and was so excited when she finished them. But now we had a problem of finding gift boxes for the jewelry. Many of you know I save all kinds and sizes of boxes, containers and bottles just for things like this.

I rummaged through my stock and found 5 boxes that were perfect! It looked like everyone was going to think they were getting candy!

I came up with the idea to cut a thin piece of cardboard slightly smaller than the Ferrero Rocher candy boxes. We carefully taped the beaded jewelry on the cardboard for mommy, Taco and daddy and then slid it in the box.

I love the Merci candy boxes because they are thin and can be used for many different items. They usually have a heart shaped opening but the Holiday ones came with just a rectangle opening, but that works! I had some styrofoam that was too thick so I sliced it it half to make it fit in the box. I added some glue to the back of it and slid it in the candy box! Next Lia and I arranged the jewelry for gramma and grampa in the boxes, taping it to stay in place. The flaps close and you can’t tell what’s inside until it’s opened! They too thought they were getting candy!

Back in August when Lia made a potholder as a gift for her aunt’s wedding, we used a Merci box for that too! I like the sizes of the boxes and the candy is delicious too! See this is why I have to eat candy, only to get the boxes! LOL

How do you hide a chicken?

I love coming up with ideas like this, recycle and reuse! Now I have a question for you. How do you hide a chicken? You cover it with stickers! LOL These are boxes from Zaxby’s and it has a little chicken logo on the cover. We covered them with stickers and used the boxes for Christmas cookies!

More boxing ideas

This is another idea I came up with when making my hot cocoa gift boxes. I bought, yes I BOUGHT some Christmas boxes at Dollar Tree that were perfect to hold two mugs, four envelopes of cocoa mix, a small jar of marshmallows and another one with sprinkles. The box was perfect for everything including cookies inside the mugs and even room for some Merci candy sticks.

But I wanted to make a hot cocoa gift box for a single friend and the Christmas box was too large for just one mug so I was back on a box hunt to fit one mug and the other ingredients. I found the perfect size box in the garage to hold everything including the spoon. Oh wait, the spoon doesn’t fit, it’s too long! No problem, I packaged everything in the box, slid the spoon in the back of it, closed the top of the box with the spoon sticking out. It was perfect because the FRIEND’S saying could be seen!

A plain white cardboard box was transformed into a Christmas gift box just by adding stickers and a bow! Finding gift boxes is like a challenge for me, I know I can find something to work even if it needs a bit of decorating!

I have a tote I keep all kinds of boxes and wrapping paper in to use throughout the year and like my mother in law we do not throw things out we reuse and if she can’t use something she sends it to me and I do the same with her. David says were two peas in a pod. LOL One day I plan on teaching Charlie’s wife to recycle but he says it isn’t going to happen but it turns you into a hoarder which is fine because we save lots of money.

Hahahaaa, you *have* to eat chocolate in order to make gift boxes, such a clever approach. Ferrero is a popluar brand here in Europe, I am happy that you guys get to enjoy Rocher, too. They’re even better as “balls”. As for Merci, the idea of calling your product “Thank you” is wonderful, but I don’t like the taste of the chocolate. I’m too Swiss to enjoy German chocolate 😉

Well someone has to do it Tamara! LOL I mainly like the Merci for the size and each being individually wrapped for adding to cocoa or cookie gift boxes. My daughter gave me two huge boxes of candy (they don’t even fit in my candy drawer – LOL) one looks like teardrops and it’s Belgian chocolate, the other box is chocolate filled with yummy center, raspberry being my favorite!

  4. Martha, yes! You’ve done it again! You invented hot chocolate kits and also recycled gift boxes. I have reuseable gift *bags* more often than boxes. This year, I sent almost all the relatives gifts from a gourmet company. So no shipping for me, and the relatives can decide what to do with the boxes. ! 🙂

Part of my challenge is coming up with boxes Kebba. Everyone love their jewelry after they realized they weren’t getting chocolate! LOL I like sending gifts from gourmet companies also if they are going farther away that we can walk or drive too!
