EYE APPEALING PHOTOS
I don’t use an expensive camera when I took photos for my blogs, I just use my Samsung Galaxy S5 but I can still get some eye appealing photos. Just by adding an interesting background, it can bring an entire different look to your photographs.
Many times it’s not just the photo, but the background that makes the photo stand out. When I add photos to my product reviews, I like to have a “clean” background without any thing except the product showing. This is one of my favorites. I like to use real flowers but I just wrote this review and since the roses aren’t in bloom yet, I had to be really creative. I had taken this photo from a rose in our garden last summer so I printed it out and set the bottle of the Rose Serum on the photo and snapped the shot. I think it turned out perfect for my back drop.
</center?For small items I used a white cardboard to hide anything that does not belong. By setting up the white cardboard, it keeps the things in the room that might show up in the background hidden.
Depending on the product, I also use interesting items that I have around the house to make the photo unique. In the following photos, you will see how some of my products are displayed.
These are bath balms that I reviewed and by adding them to the bathroom shelf with sea shells, it gives them a more eye appeal look. I also used the same shelf and shells to display natural soap.
Another place for photographing review items is to use the weathered picnic table in our back yard. I use this for items that are used outside and the fence gives a nice backdrop. Whether I’m photographing review items or beautiful flowers from our garden, the weathered boards work great.
When photographing books, just having the book on a table can be boring, it needs something to break up the plain look. This is an old, delicate doily my grandmother made, it looks great under books and it’s perfect to set my dad’s bible on.
What a better place to photograph Christmas pencils but on the Christmas tree! I did a review and laid the pencils on one of the branches for a one of a kind photo.
This is one of my favorite settings for jewelry and small delicate items. When I reviewed these beautiful necklaces, I wanted something totally different but I couldn’t find the perfect background. While looking at my granddaughter’s furry stuffed bear, I knew that would be perfect! Another tip, I use a penny in the photo so readers can get an idea of the actual size of the pendant.
This gold rose is so beautiful but it needed to be displayed in a way to show it’s beauty. I had an empty cobalt bottle that I tied a bow from gold metallic ribbon and draped a pearl necklace around the neck of the bottle. It was perfect to show off the beautiful rose.
What would make a good background for a craft project of little pumpkins filled with candy for Halloween? First I took the photo on a fall table cloth and then got the bright idea to put them under some leaves outside to make it look like a little pumpkin patch!
This is my fancy cup and saucer that I use when reviewing flavored teas. It’s such a delicate tea set and by adding a few cookies on the side, it makes the reader think of being at a tea party with the eye appealing photos.
I may get carried away at times, but I do like coming up with interesting photos. When I reviewed this popcorn bucket, I had recently taken a picture of my granddaughter next to a corn field. By transposing the popcorn bucket over the corn, and with the look on her face, I thought it was a perfect back drop!
There are times I really like to think outside the box. When I reviewed this Coconut Milk shampoo and conditioner, I set the bottles on a coconut cream pie box! You can be creative without even trying and by using things you have around your house. I hope my ideas help you come up great ways to take your own eye appealing photos. Try it next time you take photos and tag me so I can see your creativeness!

You took amazing eye catching photos. I have been getting better with taking mine. Sometimes i forget to add props to make them more eye catching. I will make a note to start doing that. Thank you for the reminder.
Thanks Sandy. I was hoping this post would help give ideas to other bloggers. Sometimes I even use a garment made from pretty fabric to lay an item on. You don’t need expensive back drops, I just use what I have! Thanks for visiting.
I need to practice my photography. My hands are so shaky I can almost never get a clear picture. I’ve played with some tripods but can never get them the right hight. I told my husband (who went to school for photography) that I needed him to be my professional photographer, but he didn’t buy into it. lol
I think hand shake is very common Nona, I have the same problem. Have you checked into the small table model tripods? The have adjustable legs and are only about 6″ high. Very easy to set up plus the fold up compactly to carry with you. A professional photographer sounds ideal! LOL Thanks for visiting.
This is an awesome post Martha. I have a difficult time thinking outside the box. Thanks fo the helpful hints. 🙂
I’m glad this was a helpful post for you Terry. When taking photos, just look around and I’m sure you’ll find a great backdrop. I’ve even used a silky nightie, like the in the photo of the roses in the vinegar bottle vase! Thanks for stopping by!
