Exciting 2300 Mile Journey
With a wedding in Vermont and a trip to our granddaughter’s surgeon consult in Ohio, we had an exciting 2300 mile journey from Thursday to Sunday. Hubby and I left South Carolina on Thursday and drove up through the eastern states to Vermont.
We stopped at the Bennington Welcome Center in Vermont and how that brought back memories from when we lived in New York State. The Welcome Center was absolutely beautiful, all cedar inside and when I walked in, it smelled like a gigantic cedar closet!
We walked around the back of the center where there was a sitting area and looked out to see the Bennington Monument. I remember when I was young, my family would visit my aunt and uncle in Cambridge New York and could look beyond the cow pastures and see the monument so clear!
The scenery was magnificent, with a Blue Spruce tree, my husband’s favorite and lots of colorful flowers.
We continued our journey through Vermont and stopped at Bromley Ski Center. They have turned it into a year round recreation area with chair lift rides, water slides, zip lines and many other summer time fun activities. My granddaughter and I trade rocks and I found these two to take to her in Ohio.
Many of the small towns we drove were established in the late 1700 and early 1800’s and what beautiful old homes and churches. But the one thing that really caught my eye was every town we went through had American flags lined up on both sides of the street.
I was getting excited as we drove closer to Reading Farms where our grandson and his bride to be would be getting married. But it wasn’t just a wedding, it was an entire weekend of family, fun, relaxation and eating!! (More on the wedding to come)
As we drove through narrow winding country dirt roads, it seemed like we were traveling back in time. It was such a lovely drive through the roads and hardly no other traffic was on them.
When we arrived at Reading Farms, it was so breathtaking, both the building and the scenery! Just look at the beauty of the rolling hills and the gorgeous views of the main house where we stayed.
There were the cutest chipmunks scurrying around and my hubby even took time to set and enjoy the scenery, something that he never does!
It was a weekend in heaven, internet was almost non-existing and I didn’t even miss it. The entire weekend was fabulous and the wedding is the most beautiful wedding you could imagine. CJ and Achelle are such a beautiful couple, both inside and out. But it wasn’t just a wedding weekend, it was also the weekend where hubby and I gained a new granddaughter. : Welcoming Our New Granddaughter
The wedding was 6PM Sunday evening and we had to dash out as soon as we snapped some photos of our handsome grandson and his gorgeous bride to continue our journey to Ohio. It was about 650 miles from Vermont to Cleveland, Ohio and driving all night is not fun. I talked hubby into stopping in Pennsylvania, near the Ohio border about 2AM. We left about 7AM and made it to Cleveland by 11:00AM and went to pick up our granddaughter. Her neuro surgeon’s appointment was 3:30PM so we had time to grab lunch, go back to the hotel where we stay and chill out with Alexandra for a few hours.
It was time to leave for her appointment and now we started getting more nervous. Alex and us were very impressed with the surgeon and how he explained everything so thorough. (More on her appointment to come). When we left the office, my sonar just happened to see a Arthur Treacher’s one of my favorite food places but none where we live! So hubby pulled in and we got a bucket of chicken and fries. Alex loves chicken but had never had LJS, but loved it. We hung out at the hotel again, Alex was chasing Pokemon in the room and it was so good to see her laughing and happy. But soon that would change, as we took her home, went back to the hotel and planned on a 5AM wake up call to head back to South Carolina.
Hubby and I went out to the truck and who was there but Alex! She stayed up all night and made the most delicious peanut butter cookies for us to eat on our trip back home. It’s so hard to say good-bye when we are with her but it was so great to see her one more time before we headed home.
The entire trip from Vermont to Ohio we stayed on track without getting lost. Hubby does all the driving and I’m the navigator and when we left the hotel in Ohio, I had him turn left instead of right so after about 5 miles, I realized we were going the wrong way! A quick turn around and we were on the right track. We made in back home to South Carolina about 10 hours later. Our 2300 mile and 42 hour driving time trip was finished. We are waiting for one more consult with the surgeons and hopefully get a surgery date at that time. Our bags are packed and we’re just waiting for the call to head back to Ohio to be with our granddaughter, we wouldn’t have it any other way.

Stay tuned for lots more pictures Andria! The wedding was awesome! Thanks for visiting.
When my wife and I go on a long trip I have to do both the driving and the navigating – she has no idea how to read a map! Hope your grandaughter’s surgery goes well.
I have a map, GPS in the vehicle plus Google maps on my phone Bill. Gotta be prepared, I still like to have an old fashioned map when traveling. Still waiting on surgery date, very nerve wrecking. Thanks for you thoughts for Alex and for stopping by.
I am glad you were able to enjoy your journey. I have kept your granddaughter in my prayers. I will continue to pray for her.
Thanks Sandy, I know prayers work and she has many. The wedding was fabulous and so relaxing, the trip to Ohio got us worrying again. Thanks for stopping by.
