Epson Document Scanner
I couldn’t have received this Epson Document Scanner at a better time! Since I’ve been de-cluttering every room, I have come across numerous piles of papers, receipts, recipes and other documents. Many were so dated that we shredded them but others were old recipes and important papers that I wanted to save.
I was amazed at how easy this Epson WorkForce ES-580W Document Scanner was to set up. The software had step by step instructions for downloading to my laptop and there were no glitches. After the scanner was turned on I set the language and time, the download was complete and ready to scan in less than 10 minutes. This is the easiest way to save documents whether you are looking to scan recipes, receipts, invoices or any other documents to your computer, email or online cloud storage. It even has the capability to scan without a computer to a USB memory drive. But another great feature is you can download the free Epson Smart Panel app from the App Store or Google Play and scan from a mobile device and scan any where you go!
The best part is it’s wireless but also comes with a USB cable if you want to hook it up directly to your computer. The touch-screen is easy to navigate and the unit has a 100 sheet auto document feed. I did a trial scan of some recipes and saved them to my laptop in a RECIPE file. Next I scanned a variety of about 20 invoices using the auto feed and every sheet ran through perfectly. It even scans two sides at once. This scanner is perfect for home or business and I plan to use it in my home office to keep everything neatly organized in computer files.
My next project will be taking all the hand written recipes that I’ve saved for years from family members and scan them so I can pass family recipes down to the next generation. I plan to save them to a USB memory drive so I can share them to whoever would like them. Just plug the memory drive in the slot on the back of the scanner and your items will be saved.
There is also a scanner maintenance tab where it shows step by step photos on the large touch screen for cleaning or replacing the roller.
I am very impressed with how simple the instructions were and easy to download the software to be ready to start scanning and get organized. No more piles of receipts and invoices, everything is neatly filed on my computer. Whether you are scanning 3×5 recipe cards, invoices or 8×10 documents, the paper width can easily be adjusted to the width needed.
This scanner is great for many document scanning projects but it’s also small and light enough to carry to different locations to scan. It’s only about 12″ wide, 7″ deep and 9″ high (plus an additional 5″ when document feed holder is up all the way). It’s perfect for your home office or to organize all your receipts and home documents. Don’t let the small size fool you, this document scanner can scan documents up to 8.5″ wide and 53″ long, up to 35 copies per minute and it scans in color.

I have many Epson products and I am very impressed with this Epson Document Scanner even though this is a review for the Epson WorkForce ES-580W Wireless Duplex Touchscreen Scanner that I received free of charge to do a beta test and review.
I agree that scanners are crucial. The Epson is ok. I use an HP- which has an excellent flat screen (for books and objects) as well as a document feeder. The Fujitsu is a better choice because it interfaces directly with a bunch of software (entering the documents directly into the accounting/front office system).
The Fujitsu sounds hi-tech for businesses Roy. I have the normal printer/scanner/fax but this scanner seems so much easier and quicker to use, at least for all my recipes and such. I also like how it’s portable so I can take it to where I need it. Thanks for your feedback!
Thanks for the recommendation! We have looked at getting a scanner like this, but they were always so expensive. Now is probably the right time for us too! Currently, I’m using an app to “scan” on my phone to pdf, then have to email the pdf to myself so I can save it on my desktop. 🙁
I am quite impressed with this scanner Angie, it’s so much easier to use than my printer/scanner/fax combo. It’s especially great to be able to take it from place to place to scan things I need to save. Perfect for my de-cluttering mode!

We have a decade old printer+scanner+copier from Canon that is still working for us.. And it has certainly been doing more than double duty for this last year with virtual schools
Yes that’s what I have been using for years Vidya. I’ve seen document scanners but this is the first time I’ve actually had one to try. It’s so easy and I like that I can scan to a USB memory stick!

I am on such a de-cluttering roll Jeanine! I have a combo printer, scanner, copier but this new scanner is awesome! I like how I can scan and save to a USB flash drive so easily!
Nice! I believe the Epson brand was the first fax/ scanner machine we bought. It’s still in our basement.
They sure have come a long way with document scanners since we got our first fax/scanner machine Jojo! This is great to help with my declutter projects!
Martha, oh ho! I’ve never thought of scanning family recipes! What a great idea, then keeping them on a flash drive. I must try that. And how do you organize the recipes once you scan them? So glad you’re loving your new scanner!
Yes it’s so great to be able to scan all the family recipes Kebba. I haven’t thought that far ahead as to organizing them but my goal is to put them in categories. I’ll probably have a part 2 coming soon!
