Encourage Little Ones
Today is Day 3 of the Cornerstone Content Blog Challenge and the topic is to encourage. My great granddaughter loves to do everything on her own and I think it’s great to encourage little ones.
Whether it’s getting dressed or getting ready for bed, Lia knows what she wants to wear. We always encourage her when she’s doing things on her own. Her favorite things to do are crafts and baking. While mommy or I are always with her and encouraging her when doing her projects she always wants to do things on her own. Lia even cleans up and washes the dishes when she’s finished baking!
The other day she was brushing her teeth and I asked if she needed help. She says, “No I got it.” Carefully squeezing the toothpaste on her brush she starts brushing up and down and then going to the back both top and bottom. She then grabs the glass and fills it with water, swishing it around her mouth before spitting it in the sink.
I love how Lia checks her pearly whites through the water splattered mirror when she’s done.
After Lia brushes her teeth I check them and go over them one more time, telling her what a big girl she is. She looks at me with a big smile and says, “Look at my pretty clean teeth!”
One thing Lia loves is helping decorate the Christmas tree. She is so independent and knows exactly where she wants to place the ornaments. Carefully she loops the ornament over the branches of the tree. She even decorated a little tree for her mommy. We encourage her to help in everything we do.
Lia has an owl collection and when she saw this adorable owl ornament, I knew I had to get it for her. As soon as we got home, even before she took her jacket off, she ran to the tree to hang the owl up. She carefully held it in her hands then gave it a gentle hug!
The first Cornerstone Content Blog Challenge was in September and this is the blog I wrote about encouraging. http://themarthareview.com/encouragement/
When you encourage little ones, it helps them become confident and independent while having fun learning new things.
It’s great that you encourage Lia and let her be who she is. Many people don’t understand the little ones, especially when they are very independent. Kids develop at their own pace and Lia’s happens to be faster than many others. Your encouragement is giving her the opportunity to shine!
Thanks for the kind words Alice. Lia is definitely her own person and so independent. She always has to at least try what she’s doing before asking for help and she has to biggest smile when she figures something out on her own.
Martha, I love your philosophy of raising the little ones with encouragement. Your methods would change the world. <3
I just realized that Lia is a lot like me Kebba. Before I ask for help I always try to fix or repair something before calling in the troops. I’m the type to put something together then read the directions to make sure I did it right. LOL I love to praise and encourage little ones!
Beautiful tree, I am glad Rusty encouraged you to go to Lowes and buy the new tree- I added a link to the FB post in my blog and mentioned how Rusty encouraged this following Lia’s encouraging Butterfly beauty into the world this past spring or was it summer- sorry it’s all a blur time wise but I remember the stories….YIKES! the splatter on the mirror gave me the chills or maybe it’s because I turned the heat down in the house-gotta let the dogs out and brush my teeth again- thank you Lia for encouraging my dental Hygiene girl! LOVE YA! (who said that?!!??!)
Thanks Pamela, I think this was all planned by Rusty. But we all love the new tree. Don’t you have splatter on the mirror? LOL If I mention it to Lia she will start cleaning the bathroom! Glad she encouraged your dental hygiene!
She is growing so fast! And is so adorable! It is great to see the way all of you encourage her independence. I admire that.
Lia loves learning Jeanine and is always welling to go one step farther.
She is such a little sweetie pie. Love that sweet determination! Excellent job of encouragement!
Thanks Julie, Lia has a mind of her own and has to do things on her own!
I think that was one of the most valuable things our mother gave us was the encouragement to try new things. Another would be the love of reading that she instilled in us.
Being independent is something every little should be encouraged to do. It will be very helpful when they grow up. Yes reading is great, Lia loves books and reading will be next!
I now see why Lia liked the owl on my blog the other day!! Cheers!!
Lia loves owls Kate! She has a collection of all the Ty Owls in her room. Not sure where her love for them came from but every time she see one she gets excited.
Such a great post. 🙂
Letting little ones explore and do things on their own is great and they need encouragement to move on to more things Amanda.
