Donuts for Friday Story Time
Today’s blog is about donuts for Friday Story Time by Lia. But Lia was busy this week and I have been over with my great grandkids near where I live. They all love to bake so the other day after school we made donuts!

These aren’t just any donuts, they are delicious apple donuts! I packed a box with the ingredients needed and off I went to spend a few days with them while mommy and daddy were away.

Iris will be 5 years old in August and she loves to bake with me, just like Lia. She carefully measured the flour and applesauce then mixed them together. Yes, that’s all the ingredients it takes other then the cinnamon and sugar coating. Iris was very careful when she dropped the dough in the hot oiI but I kept reminding her it’s very hot.

After all the donuts were fried up it was time to roll them in the cinnamon and sugar mixture. I love watching the little ones faces when they do any project, they are so serious!

Soon it was time to call in Noah and Alek to join in on the taste testing. All three agreed they were the best donuts they have had. I love doing projects like this with my great grands, it brings back memories when I would do the same thing with my kids and grandkids and also when I would cook with my grandmother.
This is the simplest recipe and it’s great for young ones with short attention spans and want to get done quick so they can eat the donuts! I don’t remember where I got the recipe but it so quick, simple and delicious!
Apple Donuts Recipe
Ingredients
1 1/4 cup self-rising flour
2/3 cup applesauce
Instructions
Combine the two ingredients in a mixing bowl and mix well with a spoon until well blended and the dough is sticky.
Add oil to a saucepan and bring to medium heat then turn the heat down a bit so the oil doesn’t get too hot.
Use a cookie scoop to scoop the dough and carefully drop the dough ball in the heated oil. Don’t over fill the pan as the dough puffs up when cooking. Fry the donuts until golden brown and flip them over unless the roll over on their own for just a few minutes.
Carefully remove the fried donuts from the oil and place on a plate lined with a paper towel to soak up the excess oil.
Let them cool just a few minutes then roll in a cinnamon and sugar mixture.
Then eat them while they are warm!
If you are a donut lover, you need to try to super easy and quick recipe for breakfast or a snack!

Lia said to tell you all that she will be back next week for her latest addition of Friday Story Time by Lia!

Seems like such an easy recipe, Martha. The doughnuts looks so yummy. You are such a great fun grand! Love Lia’s glasses.
It’s because of the great grands that I stay feeling young Lily! LOL This is such an easy and delicious recipe.
I love donuts! I’ve never seen such a simple recipe before, I am excited to give them a try! Thanks for sharing, Martha!!
Indeed these are simple Kimberly and perfect for kids to make.
How fun and easy!!
Our GF bakery/ brewery often has donut holes – my favorite treat is the maple bar!
Oh maple sounds yummy Nadya. I have another “regular” donut recipe that I add different flavors to like almond or raspberry.
For only two ingridents the donuts look good. I’ll have to give them a try
I don’t think there is any recipe easier than this Kim!
Nice to meet Iris, Noah and Alek! Happy times baking with the great-grandkids – I truly hope I get to experience this, and I’ll totally settle for grandkids!! Cinnamon/Apple anything has my vote.
I thought grands were great but when the great grands come along, they are super great Tamara! My oldest great grand will be 18 soon so it’s possible I could become a great, great gramma in my lifetime.
Oh wow, it’s great to see the kids enjoying baking. Plus, I love Lia’s goggles!!!
When I bake with this gang of greats, it brings back the memories of baking with Lia Alice. When she would play around on Snap Chat she come up the the funnies images to put of pictures. This one with the glasses was one of my favorites.
I love to eat donuts occasionally, but I don’t think I’ve tasted an apple donut flavor, though. Those donuts look yummy!
There is an apple barn in upstate NY near where we used to live and they make apple cider donuts Danwil. Talk about delicious, eating them warm after they are rolled in cinnamon.
