Delicious Meal under $5
What do you get when you put a roast, four potatoes, and one onion covered with gravy in the oven? You get a delicious meal for two people with leftovers under $5!
BiLo had boneless chuck roast beef on sale for $5.99 per pound but the package also had a $4.00 off coupon attached! The regular price for meat was $9.02, after sale price was $7.73 but after I used the coupon, it only cost $3.73! It weighed about a 1 1/4 pounds which was plenty for hubby and I.
It took about 10 minutes tops to prepare the meal for the oven. I like leaving skin on the potatoes so I washed them good, then cut in chunks. I did the same to the onion and after I put the roast in the baking pan, I covered it with the potatoes and onion. Next I took a package of gravy mix, added a cup of water and poured that over the top of the meat and potatoes. I covered it with aluminum foil and baked at 350 degrees for 1 1/2 hours.
About 20 minutes before it was done, I sliced up a fresh summer squash and sauteed it. While cooking up the squash, the roast was smelling so good and ready to serve when the squash was done cooking.
Generally I’m not a big fan of chuck roast but this one was cooked to perfection and by adding the gravy, the flavor went through the meat and potatoes while cooking. The roast was so tender we didn’t even need a knife to cut it and the flavor deliciously wonderful.
If you don’t have lots of time to prepare a meal, give this a try, I love coming up with quick, easy and inexpensive meals that are also delicious!
Sounds and smells delicious, Martha! Thanks for sharing!
It was so delicious Gaetane and the kitchen smelled so good while cooking!
It looks so good, I can almost smell it cooking and taste it!!
It was delicious Brenda! This is one meal I wish I had leftovers for another meal!
I love those $3 and $4 off coupons, too. But, given the small inventory of kosher food at Shoppers, one rarely finds them on a package. I have to rely on the $ 10 off on $50 spent coupons they provide instead.
I look the $10 off coupons too Roy, they all add up into savings! Thanks for stopping by.
