Delicious Hot Cocoa Recipes
I’ve been on a cocoa kick since I came up with my delicious hot cocoa recipes. Yesterday for Wordless Wednesday I posted teaser photos of some of my creations. For those how visited my blog, thank you! Today in South Carolina, yes the sunny south, it was 23 degrees when we woke up! Definitely hot cocoa weather! Here are some of my recipes and it’s so much fun to come up with all the different flavors and ingredients to add.
Before I get to the recipes, I’m going to share my secret ingredient that makes the milk super frothy. I add a cup of cold milk to my Ninja and then add 1 to 2 teaspoons of confectioner’s sugar and blend it on high for 60 seconds. Next I poured the mixture in a deep bowl and microwaved it at 30 second intervals until it’s the desired temperature. Why do you need a deep bowl? Because as the mixture heats up, it thickens and expands like a volcano! I will tell you the first time I did this, I heated it for 90 seconds, opened the microwave and I had white foam all over! LOL I didn’t even think it would “blow up” like it did. It’s thick as you can see by the spoon but you can still pour it.
Here is the milk and sugar mixture ready to add whatever ingredients you want for you hot cocoa.
Amrita likes them all but has her taste buds on this one, so here is the recipe for my Cinnamon Chocolate hot cocoa. Add the milk mixture to a cup and add cocoa mix (I use the envelopes of Swiss Miss) and1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon. Mix well and top with whipped cream, chocolate sprinkles and Hershey Kisses with marshmallows inside! As the kisses sink to the bottom of the hot cocoa, the chocolate melts and the marshmallow also melts into the cocoa.
Kimberly likes the cocoa with jam. You can use any flavor my mine favorite is raspberry and my neighbor brought me some homemade Seedless Raspberry jam when she went to the mountains. I put a bit of jam in the microwave for 10 seconds so it would be more like liquid. This one is quick and easy, add the milk mixture to your cup along with the cocoa mix and a teaspoon of jam, mixing it together. Top with whipped topping and drizzle it with the jam. I call this my Jamming Chocolate hot cocoa.
Brenda is ready to try the Peppermint White hot cocoa. This is made with Swiss Miss White cocoa powder added to the milk mixture plus I added a 1/2 teaspoon of almond flavoring. Mix it up, add whipped cream and peppermint chips! I also added a little peanut butter bear and you can see it slipping into the cocoa and then it’s gone to the bottom to melt!
This is another version of the peppermint cocoa but I used chocolate flavored cocoa powder. Hence it’s my Peppermint Chocolate hot cocoa!
Tamara would prefer cake but she eyed the the little Unicorn. Lia loves Unicorns AND sprinkles so these are her favorites. The top one is chocolate cocoa powder with Unicorn sprinkles. The other is Strawberry Ice Cream white hot chocolate with whipped topping and sprinkles. She also made Unicorn Sprinkle cupcakes using her own recipe and this was a delicious snack. (More on her recipe on another blog)
This is my favorite! It was the first one I made with the sugar and milk mixture and as you can see it’s still in the “volcano” mode. But I liked the photo appeal with the cocoa dripping down the cup. This was extra hot when I added melted caramel to the milk mixture. Then when I added the whipped topping it starting sinking so I kept adding more! I topped my Caramel Hot Cocoa with melted caramel syrup and melted brownie batter. Then to get fancy I added two white chocolate candy melts.
I like adding chocolate to the top and watch it sink. It gives the cocoa an even more chocolate taste! This Chocolate Coconut Cup hot cocoa has a dark chocolate candy sitting on the whipped topping and you can watch it sink. It’s going, going, gone!
These are a few other ideas with one adding a Reese’s peanut butter cup and Lia’s sunshine sprinkles and the other variety is white chocolate cocoa with whipped cream and strawberry cookie crumbles.
I invited my neighbor over to my cocoa bar! We had fun making hot cocoa with whipped topping, sprinkles, and kisses! Lia had made cookies a few days earlier and they were perfect with the hot cocoa!
So there you have it, a variety of yummy hot cocoa flavored with a variety of toppings! The ideas are unlimited, whatever your favorite topping is you can add it to hot cocoa!
BUT WAIT!! You aren’t a hot cocoa fan? Try Lipton Chocolate Chai Latta! If you still need a chocolate fix, add a Krispy Kreme glazed donut topped with brownie batter frosting and glazed pecans! Jeanine this may be for your taste buds!
Aww, I had a feeling, the Unicorn/Sprinkles version might be inspired by my young friend lil Miss Sunhine 🙂
Have a cup on me, will you?
Unicorns and sprinkles, that’s her favorite Tamara. Her latest is to add some yellow sugar sprinkles to everything she bakes, she said she’s adding sunshine to her baked goods.
All of these hot chocolate recipes look and sound delicious. The cinnamon ones remind me of a hot chocolate variation that my mother-in-law would make when we would go to visit her in Mexico. I can’t wait to try out these recipes.
I love adding cinnamon Melissa. I’ve also used white cocoa with cinnamon and it’s so delicious!
A universe of hot cocoa recipes. I never used a mix- just real cocoa and milk. And, who would have thought of adding jam? Damn! Cool tastes!
I sometimes make my own mix from real cocoa, I have a recipe to make it in a jar to have on hand Roy. I’ll be posting my “cocoa gift boxes” soon!
My grands would have a field day with these!
I like adding a spoonful of cacao to my French press with coffee or roasted chicory and Mushroom (chaga, reishi, etc) – and sometimes add cardamom when I grind the beans, and sprinkle with cinnamon.
Yes it’s fun to watch the little chocolate bears sink into the sea of whipped topping Nadya! I’ve near had coffee but adding a spoon of cacao sounds good! I’ve also heard of added a spoon of coffee into cocoa.
Martha, oh my gosh!! These are awesome creations! You are such an artist. Like you, I like to watch things sink in hot chocolate. 🙂 And you have introduced me to several ingredients that are new to me. Thank you! These would make a cool give-away booklet, to motivate people to subscribe and give you their email addresses.
What a great idea to turn it into a booklet Kebba! I’m doing that with the recipes that Lia comes up with and want to make them into a book! Thanks for the suggestion.
Hot chocolate is the best!
Yes, I love it Amanda!
