Delicious and Healthy Salmon

It’s no secret that I LOVE salmon and especially wild caught Sockeye from Alaska. Sockeye is my favorite because of the deep red color and the rich flavor. When salmon season hits, I love stocking up on it because I know it won’t be around in the stores long. This is a blog post I wrote describing the different delicious and healthy salmon species. http://themarthareview.com/wild-salmon-season/

Salmon also has many health benefits, it is full of vitamins, it’s high in protein and also omega 3. This is my post showing some of the benefits in salmon. http://themarthareview.com/s-is-for-salmon/

The other day I saw Fresh Market had Alaskan Sockeye on sale for $9.99, regular $17.99 so my sweet hubby and I took a trip to Fresh Market on New Year’s day!

I got a salmon filet for $14.59 and when I got home I cut it into 4 pieces and froze it. I always mark the date on the bag so I make sure I use the older ones first. The price per piece is about $3.65 and when I add rice and vegetables, the meal will average less than 5.00, not bad for a delicious, healthy and quick meal. I love my vacuum sealer and using that to seal out the air keeps the salmon as fresh as when I purchased it. This is my vacuum sealer andit’s so easy to use.

Panned Fried Salmon

I usually pan fry my salmon with a little butter, adding some lemon juice as it cooks. Since I also love the skin, I start cooking skin side down until it gets nice and browned.

Air Fried Salmon

But since I got my air fryer, I’m loving air fried salmon! The salmon turns out so juicy. http://themarthareview.com/air-fried-salmon/

The air fryer comes in a variety of colors but I choose the red to match my other small appliances. It even comes with accesories so I can bake a cake in it also!

Marinades for my salmon

These are three of my favorites to top my salmon with.

Lemon/Butter Sauce

As I mentioned above, I love a add lemon to my salmon while it’s baking but also when it’s ready to eat. This is the easiest and quickest recipe. Just melt a tablespoon of butter, add lemon juice to taste and pour over the salmon when it’s done cooking.

Blackberry/Raspberry Marinade

But I like to experiment and I came up with the most delicious blackberry/raspberry marinade! You can marinade the salmon before cooking or drizzle it over the filet while cooking.

But I’ll also let you know on a little secret. If you have any of marinade left over, it’s terrific over a dish of ice cream or drizzle some on a milk shake! http://themarthareview.com/super-delicious-salmon-sauce

If you like sweet, then you might like my brown sugar sauce. I mix butter with brown sugar and coat the salmon while cooking. http://themarthareview.com/delicious-brown-sugar-salmon-sauce

Since I was diagnosed non-alcohlic fatty liver disease, I changed my eating habits and salmon is on the top of my list for healthy eating. Make sure to click the blue links to see the recipes for my sauces, the health benefits of salmon and the one cooking with my air fryer.

This lady should be a writer; all her tales are so interesting and well written

Thanks Rich, I’m hoping to but Lia’s 12 month countdown into a book and present it to her when she’s 18 years old. I also still have visions of a cookbook to write with Alex!

I love Alaskan Wild-caught Salmon and enjoyed your take on ways to cook and enjoy it. While most of them won’t work for me as I follow a ketogenic lifestyle, the rest of the family eats whatever they wish and I can use some of your ideas to make their salmon more interesting to them. Interested in trying the Blackberry/raspberry Marinade for them as they do like sweet.

Salmon is one of my favorites Chef William. I will be checking out your Keto lifestyle. I was diagonosied with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease in July 2018 and went on my one healthy eating diet plan. But I am interested in reading up on Keto, I even have a Keto cookbook!

YUM, all those pictures are making my mouth water! I love Salmon and it was abundant in Seattle. Now, in Belize, it’s a pleasant surprise to find a few packages in the grocery store on rare occasion. It is truly a deliciously healthy meal.

That’s what I love about salmon, it’s not only delicious but it’s healthy! I’m still doing good on my healthy eating since July 2018!

  5. Salmon is one of my family’s favorites! We love the lemon butter sauce. I’ve never thought of using fruit, though. The blackberry/raspberry marinade sounds phenomenal! I will definitely be trying that out when we have salmon again.

I always prepared it with lemon butter Shelly, it’s delicious with that alone. But one day I decided to get creative and there came my fruity marinade. Let me know if you make it and how you like it. Don’t forget to save some to top your ice cream or cheese cake!

I love salmon, too. Just had it for lunch. I get mine from Costco. 🙂 I usually just put dabs of butter on the frozen fillet, sprinkle garlic and stick it in the oven for 20 minutes at 400 degrees. Thanks for the recipes. Might give some a try.
