Day Two July 2023 UBC

Yesterday I blogged about the start of the July 2023 UBC and how I have been participating and completing each Ultimate Blog Challenge since January 2016.

Today I want to share a few “oldies but goodies” blogs that I have written since the last challenge. OH WAIT, I HAVEN’T WRITTEN a blog since the April Challenge! Gosh am I slacking but on a good note I was able to finally catch up on my almost 200 comments that I didn’t get to when they came in! Once again life got in the way the past few months and I didn’t have time to post a blog! But now I’m on track for this challenge.

Lia on the other hand did post last month about her first batch of picking carrots! She has a great vegetable garden going and she planted carrots from seeds on March 23rd and since May she has be picking carrots!

I even tried something new with the carrot greens, I sauteed them in butter and avocado oil, sprinkled with Cilantro and slivered almonds. Talk about delicious! I’ve made some delicious dinners with Lia’s carrots too, I boil them in water with brown sugar and butter added. Are they delicious! Lia will have many more Friday Story Time by Lia blogs about her gardening!

So Lia and I are both ready to get back on track and write a blog each day for the month of July. Can we do it? I sure hope so, we’re on a blog challenge roll!

I started my blog on Christmas Day 2014 mainly to review products I received. Since then it has evolved into many other categories of lifestyles, family, money saving ideas, low cost, delicious and healthy meals plus other surprise posts. My granddaughter has her own category, Alex's Articles and the latest addition to my blog is my great granddaughter now has her category, Lia's Likings The Baby Blogger! Lia started blogger at 8 months old and she now has a Friday Story Time blog you won't want to miss! I welcome you to join the conversation, ask a question, give a suggestion or leave a comment on any blog post. I hope you enjoy Lia's Likings, she has some great posts that will make you smile!

That’s the thing with these intense challenges – once they’re over, you need to recover and not post for a while, right?

I love Lia’s carrot journey. It must be gratifying to see that planting and caring for these sprouts has a direct effect, and you eventually get to harvest.

I have never eaten the carrot greens, but now I’m curious. I have heard of people who make “carrot green pesto”, maybe the two of you want to try this one day?

I use to continue blogging for the following month but then it dwindled to two times a week Tamara. It least it was something but lately I’ve been so busy and it’s a struggle to balance blogging in there. The carrot greens are so tasty with a little crunch to them. I’ll have to check out the pesto and maybe try that for the fall carrot crop!

  2. Lia looks adorable as always! And I am thinking that butter and carrots are, indeed, a good pairing, because I generally don’t like then but they do taste better with butter. 🙂 I’m glad you got caught up on comments and are ready to roll. I managed to write most of my posts ahead, but that is only because I am not planning daily posts.

  3. Martha, yum yum! I never cooked carrots with brown sugar before, but that sounds great! I love the funny vegetables the best– like the carrot with a face Lia shared weeks ago.

Adding the brown sugar gave the carrots a great taste Kebba. I was going to make glazed carrots but this was so much easier and quicker! Yes Lia loves to come up with some funny things. LOL

  4. Hi Martha! I just love your stories about Lia and her activities. Gardening is something she will never forget! So great that ya’ll are helping her learn the value of homegrown and self-done! Well done!!! And the bonus is delicious!

Lia has loves helping in the garden since she as a baby! Now she has her own garden and is learning so much about planting, weeding harvesting and cooking Cindy. I’m so proud of how she puts so much into everything she does!

  5. Dominique says:

I am impressed with the carrots! I tried to plan some once and the neighborhood critters found them quite tasty! Lia is a very special little girl!

    • Martha says:

This is the first time for carrots for us Dominique and the first time for stating vegetables from seeds! I really didn’t think they would grow but they have been so plentiful and Lia loves gardening. She started a fall crop last week. Any yes, Lia is very special!
