Cutting My Own Long Hair
I love to find ways to save money, whether it be sale prices, coupons or even cutting my own long hair and save the price of going to a beauty shop. Plus it saves time that I don’t have with my busy work schedule. I haven’t had a “real” haircut in over 20 years but I do need to trim the ends from time to time.
It you have long, straight hair, this is an easy way to cut it. My hair is about to my waist but the split ends make it uneven so I trim it to make it stronger and grow longer! This is before I started cutting my own long hair the other day.
The first step is to brush my hair back from ear length and clip this part up. Next I part the center back and flip each side to the front. I don’t cut much off, just enough to get it even.
Then I pull the part that I clipped up and parted that in the center and pull to the front on top of the already cut hair. You can see where the longer hair is over the part that I already cut and I trim those ends to the length of the others.
After I am satisfied with my hair cut, I pull it all to the back and brush it. I only cut a small amount but it looks much better now that it’s even along the bottom edge.
Here is the before and after of my hair cut. That’s it, a very simple and effective way of cutting my own long hair.

Pretty impressive that you can cut your own hair
I like to try just about anything Roy. The amount I cut off isn’t worth the price of going to a beauty shop, plus I don’t have time to sit and have someone cut my hair! Thanks for stopping by.
Martha, your post reminded me of my mother’s hair. She had long hair and would trim it herself occasionally. She plaited hers in one long pigtail and then put it in a round bun on the back of her head.
Ah, I do that with a ponytail too! I either make a bun or just twist it together and clip with a big hair clip. I love long hair because there are so many different options for it. Glad it brought back memories of your mom! <3
I’ll so be doing this! Great tips and pics!!
Let me know how it turns out Jenn! I just can’t seem to justify the price of a hair cut at a beauty shop just for a trim! Thanks for stopping by.
