Cottage Cheese with Jello
Cottage Cheese with Jello
I remember way back when I was young, my mom would make a delicious cottage cheese with jello salad. I’m so glad I kept many of her recipes because when I make them, I always remember the good times when she made them. This is so easy and delicious!
All you need is a small package of jello mix, a 24 oz. carton of cottage cheese and an 8 oz. container of cool whip.
I add the package of dry jello mix to the cottage cheese and blend it all together. I love raspberry so that’s the flavor I made this time.
After it’s mixed together, I start adding the cool whip, a few large spoonfuls at a time. You don’t need the entire container, I usually use about half of the cool whip to the cottage cheese and jello. My mom hardly ever did measuring, she would just add the ingredients to what looked like the right amount.
When all the ingredients are mixed together, it will be light and creamy, not to mention delicious. You can even add fruit at this time. If you use canned fruit, drain the juice from the can before adding to the cottage cheese mixture. Pineapple tidbits are delicious because they don’t get mushy and fresh strawberries cut in small pieces are delicious when using strawberry jello mix. With the hot weather we are having in the south, this cottage cheese with jello salad is so refreshing to go with your meal or just as a snack.

I remember this too! She used to make it to take to cover dish suppers at Apache!
I think this was her favorite dish for all the covered dishes, even the family reunions! Thanks for visiting my kitchen Nancy. 🙂
Haven’t heard of this combo! Will try 🙂 – I’m intrigued!

My grandmother used to make this!! I have been seeking the recipe for years…she used to use the Lime Jello in hers. She also had some savory Jello recipe that had cucumbers in it. I have not been able to find that either. Thank you so much for sharing this recipe and for bringing back some fond memories of my childhood!! 🙂
I’m so glad this brought back happy memories Cindy! My mom would use lime jello with pineapple, marshmallows and chopped nuts. I think that was called Watergate salad. Would be great if you could find the jello with cucumber recipe, that sounds good. One thing about my recipe I posted, but forgot to mention I add a bit more cool whip the next day (if an leftover) to soften it up. Thanks for visiting, let me know what if you make some!
I remember recipes like this from the years I lived in the middle of our country. They were favorites. Thanks for the memory!
I’m so glad my recipe brought back memories for readers! Memories are what keeps things going. Thanks for visiting Alana.
What an interesting idea! I have always associated cottage cheese with yucky diet experiences, so I read this post to try to create a more positive association. Can’t go wrong with fruit, jello & Cool Whip! 🙂
That’s usually what many people think of cottage cheese Jeanine! You can even make this low cal but using lowfat cottage cheese and coolwhip and sugarless jello! Try it, you’ll love it! Thanks for stopping by!
Martha, I never saw jello mixed with cottage cheese (or anything) until I was 15, attending my Virginia grandmother’s funeral. Quite a few delicious jello dishes showed up; they said so much about people caring. Thanks for bringing back lovely memories. I’ve had the one you describe today, and it is delicious!
I didn’t realize how many memories this blog brought! I’m so glad it brought good ones back to you Kebba. I like this even as a dessert! Thanks for stopping by.
Now I like cottage cheese. And I like Jello. But I’m not sure I’d ever be willing to try the two together.
You should try it Nona! It’s delicious and the jello adds a great flavor to the cottage cheese. Thanks for stopping by.
