Costco Trip for Green Beans
Today’s blog topic is sitting on the front porch chatting with friends. Won’t you come join me for coffee, tea or hot chocolate and we can chit-chat. Do you want to hear about my latest Costco trip for green beans? Might not be the most exciting chat but wait until you see all I got! Have a Costco muffin while sipping your beverage.
The other day we made a Costco trip for green beans. I love their fresh/frozen organic green beans and at $10.89 for a 5.5 pound bag, it’s a steal! I like these beans because they are extra fine and I cook them frozen for a crunchy, delicious taste.
My favorite way to prepare them is to sautee them in avocado oil and a little butter then sprinkle with slivered almonds and dried cranberries. This is oh so good! Now you know I don’t like to waste anything so when I saw the drippings in the pan from the steak, I came up with an idea. I decideed to toss the bean mixture in to soak up the juice and was that a super delicious flavor!
But getting back to our Costco trip, we didn’t get just the geen beans! Products keep jumping off the shelves right in our shopping basket and before long it was over-filled with Kleenex, paper towels, freezer bags, bakery items, a huge pumpkin pie and of course meat and salmon. I also saw some coconut almond candy, whole cashews, s’mores snack mix and gummy eyeballs (for Trick or Treaters) that I couldn’t walk passed. I tried, I really did, but Rich made me get them! LOL
As we approached the register I was having heart palpitations thinking we must have spend close to $400.00! Was I shocked to see the total spent all all the items was just over $200.00! We won’t need paper towels, kleenex or ziplock bags for any time soon since we get super large quantities of those products.
For $22.63 we got a 5 pound package of stew beef that I repackaged into 5 one pound bags for the freezer. I can come up with a lot a different ways to prepare this for delicious meals for about $4.50 per bag.
The wild sockeye salmn cost $18.58 for almost 1 1/2 pounds. That was divided into four meals at less than $4.70 each.
I also saw the perfect thing for Lia’s Sunshine Bakery, they had 25 meal prep containers with lids for $7.99. Lia packs up you cookies her Alzhiemer’s Fundraiser when she has special orders and we add a label to the top and these will be perfect for labeling. Now all her cookie boxes will all be the same sized container and these are deep enough so it won’t crush the brownies! I can make up more labels as needed and stick them right to the top of the container. I think it’s time to update your label with a more recent picture since this one is over a year old but I just love it! After all Ann Turner Cook was the original Gerber baby and a sketch of her has been the company trademark on packaging and advertising since 1931. Maybe we can use Lia’s picture for a bit longer!
So I think I did super on my Costco shopping but here’s to something new! I got a free one year Costco membership this past January so it’s coming up for renewal soon. When we were at the register the cashier asked if I wanted to upgrade for $15.00 and I would get a percentage back on all my purchases. This might be good for those that purchase high ticket items but I did some quick figuring and would have to spend $750.00 to get the $15.00 back so I declined tht offer. BUT the other day I was on my Swagbucks earning app and they had a special half off offer from Sam’s Club! The regular price is $50.00, I got a year’s membership for $25.00 plus I recieved 1500 Swagbuck points which is worth $15.00. So it cost me $10.00 for the yearly membership. Now I can compare the two stores and decide which has the best products and prices!
So far I’m super happy with Costco but I won’t know about Sam’s until I try it. I do know if Sam’s doesn’t have the green beans I will be very dissapointed. Do you belong to either warehouse store and if so which one to you prefer? Until my next shopping trip, blog on!
I’m so glad you could make it. I hope you enjoyed the Costco muffin and since I already had this topic planned I turned it into inviting you all to sit on my porch and chat!
I’m a Costco Business Shopper. (I admit that our local shop no longer carries the selection of kosher chicken and turkey- which was a primary driver of my relationship. But, I can pick up that stuff in Wheaton on my way to my kosher butcher -which means that Costco is less of a requirement.) I do buy their lox every 10 days or so- plus some pretty great wines.
The thing I like about Costco is I can stock up and save on weekly shopping trips Roy. The less I go into a store, the more I save!
I love green beans, but most frozen ones seem tough to me. Are these still pretty tender? My husband loves buying briskets, cutting off the fat and then grinding it and mixing it with regular hamburger. Makes the best burgers ever!
These green beans are organic and very tender Diane. They are like baby green beans and not thick and tough. I do like them crunchy when I sautee them but if you prefer softer beans, you can boil them. Your burgers sound delicious!
Martha, yes! At our Costco (one entire minute north of my home), those skinny green beans are also organic, which of course gives us much more energy when we eat them. I have a countertop oven– like a toaster oven but also air-frys– and I like to put the frozen green beans on a foil-wrapped baking tray, drizzle with a little olive oil, and bake until perfect. Easy and yummy! Part of my family is dedicated to Sam’s over Costco, and they love Sam’s items. However, I’m really happy with Costco. Plus, who doesn’t love taking pictures of Halloween costumes in July?
Yes those are the same ones Kebba, organic and delicious! Our recipe sounds like I need to tray that! Now I have the delimma asa to Sam’s or Costco. Sam’s has a few things I like better but they don’t have the green beans! That may be the deal sealer!
Martha, I would love to sit and have tea or coffee with you. You’ve left me breathless with your shopping and savings. I have to make another trip to Costco soon. I love their barbecue chicken. I hear that their pumpkin pies are a very popular item at Thanksgiving. I thing I don’t like about shopping at Costco is all the loading into the car then unloading when you get home and putting everything away.
I enjoy finding the best prodcuts for the best price Lily and by shopping at Costco I can eliminate weekly trips to the grocery store which saves even more money because I’m not tempted to put things in the cart that really aren’t needed. LOL Yes the loading and unloading isn’t the best time but I do like to see all my savings after I repackage the meats. I’d love to have tea with you too!
Matt and I use Costco and we love green beans.
The organic frozen green beans are delicious Amanda. Try them with dried cranberries some time!
