Continuing Education Classes

My Continuing Education Classes

I am so excited about my continuing education classes!  I started last week and yesterday was my second class. It’s so much fun learning new things plus it’s exceptionally great to know that I can still learn at 67 years old.  The best part, my “professor” is the most caring, patient and wonderful person.  I don’t even have to leave my couch office to get to classes!  I do them through Skype and you may have guessed it, “Professor CJ” is my grandson!

My first lesson was how to get more traffic by expanding the use of Focus Keywords, Meta Descriptions and Tags for my blog posts.  This is what I learned from that:  GETTING MORE TRAFFIC

My second lesson was very interesting.  I have had the same blog header since I switched my blog to my own domain name last year so it was time to “refresh” the look. When CJ asked me come up with a word, the first to come to mind was Penguins since those are one of my granddaughter’s favorite.  We kept the water background but instead of a beach scene, it’s now icebergs!  CJ  added a little penguin sitting on an iceberg on the left side.  It’s so cute, doesn’t have any meaning other than liking penguins but it’s a fresh new look.

Now it was time to get to work.  Since some of my photos wouldn’t stay centered, CJ showed me how to correct that. Instead of just clicking the photo editing button from left, center or right, he had me go into the TEXT mode instead of VISUAL.  The TEXT mode is where all the writing of the post are and the photos show only links. It’s here where he gave me a class on adding a code before and after each photo link and bam, the photos are centered!  After he did a few, he then went to the next photo link and asked what code I would add to center the photo.  Luckily I was paying attention and I told him what the code was and I passed that test!!

The last part of this lesson was using Slug or Shortlink to reach your blog.  When you see a message that your Slug has a stop word, that means words which do not contain important significance when people are using search engines.  Words like a, an, by, can, his, my are just a few examples.  So my title “My Continuing Education Classes” is good for a title but not for the Slug or Focus Keyword.  When I remove the word “my”, it’s perfect.  When I write my blog, I check the Analysis that shows the Readability of the blog through a collection of content checks. This can be found on the bottom of the page and I like to make sure most or all are green.

I’m not sure what my next continuing education class will be, but I’m looking forward to learning as much as I can.  It’s so much fun going back to school especially with such a great teacher.

I started my blog on Christmas Day 2014 mainly to review products I received. Since then it has evolved into many other categories of lifestyles, family, money saving ideas, low cost, delicious and healthy meals plus other surprise posts. My granddaughter has her own category, Alex's Articles and the latest addition to my blog is my great granddaughter now has her category, Lia's Likings The Baby Blogger! Lia started blogger at 8 months old and she now has a Friday Story Time blog you won't want to miss! I welcome you to join the conversation, ask a question, give a suggestion or leave a comment on any blog post. I hope you enjoy Lia's Likings, she has some great posts that will make you smile!
