Clingman’s Dome

It’s Wordless Wednesday (yes I’m using words!) and I’m sharing some photos I took yesterday at Clingman’s Dome. Clingmans Dome is the highest point in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park at 6,643 feet. It’s also the highest point in Tennessee. It is located along the state line, so half of it is in North Carolina and half is in Tennessee with the visitor center located in North Carolina.

The road to get to the trail is a seven-mile drive off of Highway 441 which is a beautiful drive through the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and takes you right to the trailhead. From there, it’s a half-mile hike to the top of the observation tower. Half a mile isn’t bad but when the hike is straight up, with this elevation you need to take your time. It get’s harder to breathe and your heart can start pounding, but this is the second time hubby and I made it to the top! Lia and her mommy went with us and it was their first time and they both loved it!

I hope you enjoyed the pictorial tour of Clingman’s Dome, it is is peaceful and many hiking trails filled with wildflowers the fresh smell of pine trees! It’s as close to heaven you can get and still be here on earth.
